Australian College of Legal Medicine

Membership of the Australian College of Legal Medicine is available to New Zealand doctors and dentists who hold an appropriate legal qualification. The College is the foremost body in Australia responsible for educating members of the medical profession about all legal issues associated with the practice of medicine or dentistry. This is the second occasion that the College has decided to hold a workshop in New Zealand.

Mr Bruce Corkhill QC

Mr Corkhill, Chairperson of the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal is a very experienced barrister and a specialist in medico-legal issues.

Mr Glen Marshall

Crown Solicitor for Nelson, Lawyer specialising in criminal work.

Prof. Roy Beran

The President of the Australian College of Legal Medicine is a consultant physician with basic law degree and Master of Health Law who has considerable experience as an expert witness and will impart his experiences as seen through the eyes of a clinician.

Medical Expert Witness Training Workshop (1 day)

The workshop combines didactic lectures with a moot in a court room, with real lawyers, and all the drama of defending reports selected from the participants. Each candidate is expected to submit the report electronically before the workshop and this will be assessed and marked to provide immediate feedback and constructive criticism.
