Got my alevel results - medicine out of reach? Help?

To cut a long story short i had a bad year during my AS. I achieved BEEE (E's in biology and chemistry and english.. B in psychology)

A2 i dropped chemistry and took up geography in one year.
I achieved A*ABD (b in general studies and D in biology)

my passion to do medicine is ridiculous and my tutors have told me for two years its never going to happen but i cant accept that.

if i tell unis im resitting biology on my gap year will i be given a chance? An interview? Where should i go from here?

    thank you!

Most universities don't accept resits, however I'm pretty certain that UEA do accept a third year, I've got a friend who did something similar to you. With an A* and an A under your belt it might be worth asking them? Give their admissions a call and see what they say. It's never impossible to do medicine, keep at it!

Sorry I'm not much help, graduate entry is more my forte.

Hi there - I've just been attracted to this post because it completely sums up the position I felt myself in at 18. I missed out on my position at Liverpool medical school by 1 grade so went on to study Biological Sciences there. I can honestly say it was a bit of a blessing in disguise. I've now got a 1st in an interesting subject that included modules very relevant to Medicine, one that would stand me in good stead for any potential future medical/general job applications and I've got tons of "life experience" (cliche term, but very true!). I just wanted to urge you that if you don't get into Medicine this time around, it very much isn't the end of the world. Consider the graduate route if needs be. Many people are of the opinion that graduates make better doctors, plus you'd have 3 more years to think of the reasons you really want to do Medicine!

I wish you all the best with any answers you get back. And don't let your tutors convince you that you can't do anything you really really want to do!! There'll be a way.
