Life as an Oxford Medical Student

    Hello people of Newmediamedicine.

My name's Tom; I'm in my first year of medical school at Oxford, and I thought I'd start blogging about it. I started a blog a couple of months ago writing about all sorts, and generally putting down anything on my mind at the time.

I still write that sort of stuff, but I've also started writing about my life as a medical student. Not only does this allow me to write down my memories/bitch about the amount of work I've got on my plate, but I thought it might be interesting to some people to find out what it's like to be in my fortunate position. Posting may be a bit haphazard and irregular, but I'll talk about all sorts of stuff from my 'homework' to my dread regarding the forthcoming exams, and I'm also going to try to write some tips on applying to medical school. I'm no expert, but I'll write what I found useful and if it helps, great! If not, don't bother reading the rest I suppose.

If you've got any questions, don't hesitate to ask (tomoneverything@gmail.com), and in the mean time, go check out my posts so far on all things medical (Tomonmedicine)

I'll try to keep posting on here, probably just a quick summary of what I'm posting up on my blog, but stick around, and hopefully I'll provide you with an eye opening time killer for when YouTube just doesn't suffice.

    Tom

    Medicine amongst the spires

    I'm back!

With a new blog. Unfortunately, I've not posted any new content yet, but I have moved all my medical related posts to Medicine amongst the spires. I hope this is a lot easier to navigate and get to see what you're interested in than the last page I posted.

As I haven't actually blogged any new content on my blog, I might as well say here what I've been up to. This week has been tough. I had an essay to finish on Monday, along with a talk and some reading for two tutes on Tuesday. This kept me up most of the night, pretty much ruining my week in terms of sleeping patterns. With tutorials being scheduled when they are, and deadlines at ever-inappropriate times, it's been hard to do what I want to do. I haven't really managed any organised sport for a while, but I suppose that's good in that I'm getting more time to revise.
Alas, being the idiot I am, revision does not come easily to me, and I've spent a lot of time this week so far, doing very little. Very little indeed. So close to exams this is a bad plan. At least now my lectures are winding down, and I'm getting more time to do the work, but the motivation isn't there. This is my last week of lectures before exams start in just over 2 weeks, and I'm absolutely bricking it.
Life must go on, and now, it is past my bedtime. Maybe I'll take my pharmacology book to bed. Though, I'm not so sure sleeping next to it is quite the right way to go about learning it cover to cover. Oh well, until next time...

    Tom

    Back again

Revision time again, which obviously means I am procrastinating. I've just posted another article on Medicine amongst the spires about work experience when applying to uni. I hope it's helpful to some people. I'm not expecting to be posting very often, but I found a couple of pieces I'd written on some scrap paper, so there may be some more in the coming weeks.

I've also got my finals when I go back after Easter, so right now I'm bricking it. Does anyone have any advice for not getting distracted and being able to concentrate on work. It's just not happening for me.

Head over to my blog to read the most recent post

    Hi Tom :)

So I just came across your blog as I was researching a little about life as a post-graduate medical student as I aspire to one day study medicine at a renowned university. I saw your blog and send you an email as yoy said we could
I hope to hear from you soon (and I hope you still check this blog).
