Well, its been two weeks, my interview was today, and I got the job! I really didn't think I had it, since I have no experience with kids and had never witnessed the phlebotomist from my current job taking blood from a central line, but I must have said something right, haha. So now I need to hand in my notice to my current job (I already mentioned to the Sister that I was going to look for a phlebotomy job as it really interests me) and wait 4 weeks then thats me.
Also went to see my uni adviser today and he OK'd my course choices, so thats something else done. Now the only thing I'm worrying about is whether the secretary will let me work my timetable the way I want it, to enable me to have this job and still make all of my classes. Theres a combination that works perfectly, but usually they just put you into a group, so I'll really need to make my case. Hopefully the fact that I'm self-funding for two years will help, need to be able to work somehow!
All in all it was a happy day, so lets hope that feeling carries on for the next few weeks, as I have plenty of nightshifts coming up and I want to be in good spirits, haha.

Wow its been 2 months since I last posted, and I still havent started my new job! mainly due to them not receiving a reference which my ex-manager says she definitely posted (& now she's on her honeymoon). I had to give another reference and hopefully she'll send it back soon, so I can start asap. I'm not hugely bothered right now, because I have enough money to get by on for a while (thanks to my last wage from my fulltime job plus my first student loan payment) but I just want to get started and get the experience. Part of me is hoping I won't start til the 22nd though, because my boyfriend bought me tickets to see WWE Raw in Sheffield on the 18th (awesome!!) plus we get to visit my best friend who's doing her PhD there, and I really don't wanna have to ask for a day or 2 off work when I've just started!
My uni course is going well so far, apart from being off for 1 day because I've felt awful this week (only took one day off, persevered with the rest, haha) and its mostly basic stuff since its first year. I do feel old though, my class seems to be full of 17 year olds. How old will I feel if (when!) I get into medicine! Haha.
Until I start my new job I have mornings off uni, because I got my timetable sorted to coincide with my employment, and they were sympathetic as I'm self funding. Which means long lie ins for me!
Gonna go grab a cup of coffee before I need to leave, I'll keep anyone who's interested posted when I start my job & how I'm dealing with student life this time around!
Toodles.

Finally started my phlebotomy training this week! And I have to say, its been intensive but I've really enjoyed it so far. I have my own tourniquet and everything on the first day of training (only 3-3.5 hours training each day) the trainer got us to take blood from her own arm, first time ever going into a human arm with a needle, it was scary! There were only 2 of us though so she wasn't QUITE a pin cushion
I'm training at a mainly adult hospital the now, but next week I'll be going to the children's hospital where my permanent position is. Then we'll see how much I like it! Youngest person I've bled so far was 14, and when I go to my proper work it'll be younger kids than that, cancer patients, plus the neonatal ward, where I'll get to stab babies' heels.
Its a bit sinister sounding that I'm looking forward to the experience but I really am. Feels like I have a proper medical role (silly I know).
Uni is going well so far, but I keep letting myself get frustrated that I'm not going into medicine for years yet, before I manage to snap myself out of it. I need to work hard, and wishing my life away isn't going to get things done!
On a slight downer, I havent been feeling too great lately, I said in my last post that I wasn't well for a while, and it didn't really go away, just got a bit better then came back. maybe I just need a proper rest, been running on empty for a while now, so many things to do.
WWE Raw was awesome and I guess my training started at a good time, just managed to go see the wrestling without having to take a day off!
Off now to think more medical thoughts, the next 5-10 years couldn't go by quick enough, haha.

I can't believe its been a year since I posted last!
Well, a quick update - I loved my paediatric phlebotomy job, but had to leave last month as it doesnt fit with uni anymore so now I'm working in a care home. Hopefully the varied experience will help me in the future. I'm still on the nurse bank as an auxiliary nurse, so thats good.
Uni is going alright, in second year of my anatomy course the now. Fingers crossed I'll do well enough!
