Philosophy and Ethics of Mental Health

    Hi all,

I am international philosophy student interested in continuing my education at Warwick. I am particulary interested in Philosophy and Ethics of Mental Health programme. I was really happy to see that there is a programme like this at Warwick (professors are among the best in the field, I admire thier work in philosophy of psychiaty [my area of interest], bioethics, philosophy of science...) I would be very grateful if someone could tell me something more about admission to PEMH: Is it very competitive?; is there a limit on international admissions? ...
I know that it is a little strange to read about philosophy on a forum about medicine - but PEMH is a medical school programme, so I thought that it would be best to talk to warwick medical school students.

    Best wishes!!!

I've not got personal experience or exposure to it but when looking around for a philosophy of medicine related masters I came across it. The only thing about it is that I think it's aimed towards health care professionals but otherwise it looks really interesting. The only other masters that is similar to it in the UK seems to be the MA Medical Humanities and MA Philosophy of Medicine at Kings College London.

Personally, the price of both put me off :/

    Hi Zedd,

There is another programme in UK: Philosophy and Mental Health MA/PGDip/PGCert Postgraduate - Courses - University of Central Lancashire
It was (as far as I know) founded by Tim Thornton.
I hope that there is someone who can provide some additional information about PEMH programme at Warwick. Yes, it is quite expensive, but I think that it is worth money: I was lucky to stumble on some of necessary literature and teaching material and it seems to be very in-depth (both for practicioners and philosophers, albeit it is more philosophically bent) and organized very well. Zedd, is your AOI philosophy of medicine?

It is always nice to see a philosopher interested in medicine. There is also another programme related to philosophy of mental health:
Philosophy and Mental Health MA/PGDip/PGCert Postgraduate - Courses - University of Central Lancashire
Considering price of this programmes - yes it is quite expensive - but it is something that I would like to do - so i hope I will manage somehow.
I hope, that there is someone at this forum who nows something more about admission at PEMH programme at Warwick. Zedd, in addition, concerning philosophy - what is your AOI? Thank You for your previous answer.

    Best!
