Warwick GEP - any real oldies?
Hi
I'm invited to the assessment centre and wondered how many other real oldies are going too? When I say real oldies I mean 35 years +
Also, if any current students could say whether there are any / many real oldies on the course that would be helpful too.
I'm holding an offer at St George's and I know they have a geriatric intake so I'd fit in quite well there. I don't yet have a sense of whether there is a real diversity of ages at Warwick yet though so grateful for any comments on this.
Cheers!

Couple of people over that age in my year but vast majority are <30 with most being straight from uni.
Warwick GEP '08-'12 - Phase II Med Student (Neurology and Rheumatology) - 3 months to finals
NTU '05-'08 - BSc (Hons) Forensic Science - 1:1

Hi,
I'm a first year at Warwick, and I'm 41 - so over 35 is not unprecedented but definitely a bit of an oddity! It does make you a bit different, so depends if that bothers you - but people are very nice and friendly so it doesn't need to be an issue. Depends a bit on your lifestage as well - I'm married with 3 kids, so I don't really have much time for a uni social life - and that's probably the biggest difference, rather than age per se.
Anyway, good luck with the selection centre and feel free to get in touch for more info about what it's like.Last edited by alismith; 17-03-2010 at 04:23 AM.

Hi, thanks for your reply. It is reassuring! I think my confidence has been knocked by another GEP interview in which all the questions seemed to be about my age and ended with an assertion by the interviewer that I didn't want to be doing foundation training and working nights in my mid 40s. I challenged the comments obviously but it was demoralising. I don't have a decision yet on that course but I'd be astounded if it wasn't a rejection.
Anyway. I'm looking forward to the assessment centre at Warwick - I don't mind being an oddity, I just want a fair hearing

Don't worry, they didn't ask me anything about my age at Warwick - just one question in the interview about why I hadn't done medicine earlier, which seemed perfectly reasonable. Noone's ever really seemed that bothered, to be honest! So good luck for next week, I'd be extremely surprised (and disappointed) if anyone gave you a hard time on the age thing, so you should definitely get a fair hearing - I certainly did.
