Prep for selection centre
Hey,
been reading through a few threads, seems like the selection centre will consist of a group task, the interview and a written paper...
Just wondering if anyone could give us an idea of what kind of things they look at in the written thing?? Doesn't need to be a specific question, just what kind of areas etc...
I've been out of education so long I feel like it wouldnt hurt to maybe do a bit of practice!

Hi there,
Congratulations on your invite to the selection centre! I'm sure you will enjoy it, it's much better than most interview processes and you are given every opportunity to shine. It's hard to see how you can practice for any of the components of the selection centre because they are not things that have to be prepared for, and also they may change the format this year! However, if it helps, last year we were given a scenario, and then had to rank certain things in order of importance, giving reasons why we chose to have them in that order. There is no right or wrong answer for something like this, they are mostly looking at your decision-making and prioritising skills, and also how well you express yourself in writing, in a short amount of time. I hope this is of some help!
Best of luck!

Yeh its been the same for at least 3 years now. It tests innate skills so nothing you can prepare for. Just be yourself!

I got my letter through this morning
and i was just wondering where you read the bit about an "interview"? On my letter it says the group task (any ideas what that could be?), the written paper, a questionaire and then observing and commenting on a healthcare professional-patient consultation...

again the group task it not something you can prepare for, so knowing what it is wont help you! its just to see how you interact with other people, and how you work within a team. Whether you pass the task or not isn't important! (my group failed and 4/6 are here now!)
When i was reading these last year i found it really difficult to believe what everyone was saying about not being able to prepare, and it being the best interview experience that people had had because it seemed like such a lot of assessments. But it really is quite good fun!
just be yourself and enjoy yourself!2nd year Warwick student

I ran the group task for a day last year and probably 90% of groups fail the task but when you sit and watch groups doing the same thing you can tell which people are good in group situations and who is faking it.

Hi there
I am going to barts for my selection centre. However, do they interview you one to one and ask questions like, why do you want to study medicine etc?
Do I need to prepare like I would for a normal interview???
