UKCAT Score
Hey
I was just wondering if anyone knew what kind of weight gets put on UKCAT scores at warwick and how they use it in admissions?
I just did my UKCAT today and got a reasonably strong score (707.5 average) and im trying to figure out where that leaves me.
Are there any current warwick students on here who can reveal what score they got when they were accepted?
I'm thinking that a biomedical science degree first and a strong UKCAT should be enough to get me into the selection centre (obviously depending on me writing up a good personal statement) but i really want to do everything i can when it comes to warwick specifically.
After going on the open day i've completely fallen in love with the uni and whilst id be happy to get a place at any of my choices warwick is absolutely top priority for me.Newcastle Fresher 09!

in the past they used the MSAT instead of UK CAT and i think that they would interview all applicants who were inthe 80th and above percentiles (based on MSAT score). Perhaps it will be similar with UK CAT, but i'm not sure.

Hi a friend of mine started at Warwick in 2007 with a UKCAT score in the 50th percentile and a 2:1 if that helps at all. They obviously may adapt their criteria slightly each year but I take it to mean that thye look at your application very widely ie. ps, ref work experience, etc have a good weighting

I was told that they ask the top lot of UKCAT scores in for the selection centre, but I assume they also take other things into consideration, so having a very high UKCAT won't necessarily guarantee a place at the selection centre, but bare in mind, if you do get invited, once you're there, they don't look at you personal statement or UKCAT score again, so they will obviously be important for the first step of selection. I can't remember my exact score, but it was high 600s, about 680/690 I think.

they also don't look at your A levels or post grad degrees once your at selection centre. Its all based on how you do on the day and whether or not you get your 2:1 or above.

they look at degree and UKCAT and i got through to selection centre with 715- i think this year the cut off was around 660 so you should feel pretty chuffed with your UKcat results and i'm sure you'll get an invite to the selection centre.
I'm applying again this year too- i got though to the very last waiting list- so i know i'm good enough to get in- but numbers weren't on my side!2009 reapplicant.

I'm assuming they look at your P.S and work experience as well before the selection centre invite? Not just degree and UKCAT?
Right now the only thing i have left to worry about is writing a bitching personal statement, though trying to get across personality, work experience, reasons for applying, extracurricular activities etc in 4000 characters remains a pretty big worry for meNewcastle Fresher 09!

My work experience was never asked about, I presume they just expect you to include it in your PS. I think my PS was pretty good and my UKCAT was 710. Got me to interview but after that it all goes on the day in question which was completely non-medical except for 'Why Medicine?' and 'Which part of medicine do you think will be toughest for you'?, this will get you a conditional offer. Up to you to get the 2:1/1st after that.

I was asked about all of my work experience in my interview at the selection centre, but I was never really asked why I wanted to do medicine, I was asked what I thought would be tough for me though, and I was asked about why I had decided to do another degree first, and also, amongst other things, I was asked why I wanted to go to Warwick - so basically what type of learning was best for me.
