Cheapest and nastiest ON campus accommodation costs roughly twice as much as proper, clean, comfortable OFF campus accommodation. It's a no-brainer.
There are certain areas popular with the childre...undergrads, such as Elm Park, College Court and Milford Grange but you can spot the blackspots a mile off.
Daft.ie is your friend.
If there's anything specific you'd like to know just shout.UL class of 2012.
I think my brain is full.

Torn between the convenience of on-campus for first year vs the much cheaper cost of off-campus. I have done both before and I still can't choose.
I'm heading to Limerick this evening to get the bank loan ball rolling and I might have a look at a few places then, try to help me decide!!Offer accepted - UL

Hey I'm going to Limerick on Monday and gonna suss out accommodation, etc...
Although on campus may be a bit more convenient, reckon I'd much rather live off campus in a proper house, and make like a grown up...! Obviously saving lotsa money would be great too...
Was thinking even if theres parking on campus, could get something nearer the city for the hope of having some kind of a life outside the 4 walls of college...!
So if anyone is keen to share a grad med house, let me know and ill have a look and keep an eye out...

Could anyone who's studying down there suggest what sort of monthly rent you'd be looking to pay for a nice place off campus?? Per room/apartment/house - it doesn't matter, just ball park figures! thanks.

Anyone thinking of convenience should bear in mind that because of the sheer size of the UL campus, for many things there are lots of off campus options that are closer to places you'll need the most [library, 24h shops for 3am coffee runs, and the library] than a lot of the on campus accommodation.
It's definitely a good idea to come down and have a proper look to see where things actually are - it's very easy to misunderestimate how spread out things can be in Limerick.UL class of 2012.

A Double room should be between 250-300, 300 would have you expecting a really nice ensuite sharing in a house. Houses are about 850-1000 for a four bed. As couldntgetaname said elm park, college court are really rowdy, cois gruda have some nice duplexes so does curragh birin and caislean na habhain are really nice but a bit farther out (25mins) Annacotty is a bit farther away but the new town is really lovely with a bar, resturants and shops. Also willowbrookk(i might have this name wrong) is really slose to the cinema and superquinn and the all important Lodge! Also beware of any landlords who have loads of non-specific ads on daft, some tend to have loads of houses and charge more rentwise to first years.

Thanks for all the replies guys this is very informative. I'm looking at places on daft.ie now, don't know Limerick particularly well but i've been there a few times. going to head down myself as soon as i can. It would be cool to live with some other GEM people.

Hey all, went to Limerick yesterday evening to try and get the ball rolling on my loan and had a look around a few of the off-campus places (the non-nasties) and have now flip-flopped into the off-campus camp. I'd be up for another house with gradmeds...going to be in Limerick next Friday and Saturday so would be around to look at a few places if anyone is about...sure pm me and let me know.
Think my biggest prob off-campus was living in a house with random 18 year olds and walking to college in the rain but it's seems five years out of limerick has shrunk the distance I was worried about and if a few of us could lease a decent place and were all in the same boat that would be cool.Offer accepted - UL
