Introducing the class of 2015!
Hi,
I thought since offers have started coming out we could all introduce ourselves. After all, it can't hurt to start meeting our classmates in advance.
My name is Zoya and I will be coming from Edmonton, Canada. I am in 2nd year at the University of Alberta. I am originally from Pakistan but moved from there when I was 3. I am not yet sure which specialty I would like to practice, but Radiology and Ob/Gyn look appealing.
These are a few facts about me. I won't specify a set format which everyone has to follow. It would be more interesting if people shared whatever came to mind.High school grade: 90%
UKCAT: 647.5
UCAS: Oct 15
Choices:
King's (5 year)- acknowledged Nov- rejected w/out interview
HYMS (5 year)- rej 11/06 w/ interview
UEA (5 year)-- interview Feb 18- Offer March 1st- FIRM!
Birmingham (5 year)-rejected March 12
It's been quite a cycle but off to medical school come Sept '10!!

Hi I'm Tiffany. Like Zoya, I am also from Canada. I was born in the UK, stayed there until I was 2 and moved to Malaysia until I was five...after which I moved to Toronto, Canada where I have been staying ever since.
Always wanted to do medicine, my work experience has really motivated me to pursue cardiology- likely interventional cardiology. I am excited to partake in PBL and am glad to be learning medicine in a country that believes in universal healthcare.

Hi, I'm James from Worksop in Nottinghamshire, i got my unconditional offer yesterday. Really excited, me and my best mate both graduated with a first in Biomedical Science and managed to both get a place at UEA. Can't wait to start in september. All the student reps at the interview seemed very welcoming.

Hey! That's pretty awesome to be with your best bud throughout this long career trek. Where are you guys planning to stay during the course of your studies?

Hey,
Yeah we'll be living together, we're just deciding where. But considering Mark is from East Anglia, I'm leaving it to his know how to find somewhere. ATM there only looks like theres 4 people on the course. Mark and I, are known as White (my last name) Seaman (Marks Last name), and we'll be hitting UEA in september. Has anyone got any additional information? ie reading lists? timetables etc? Any UK students?

Cool, yah I am debating as to whether to live on campus the first year. Apparently they pair up med students and UEA has been ranked 3rd for accommodation...keep me updated on what you guys are doing.
As for textbooks, I was browsing this forum and someone was asking about the same thing. There was a list they supplied but generally there are course required books that we need to buy or have access to (required readings) and to supplement these course books, there are text books in general physiology, pathology, ethics, law, anatomy that we should take a look at.
When do they actually start sending out course material and schedules?

I've never been to Southwold, but I've heard it's very pretty. My parents are moving from Norwich to just outside Beccles next week. I'll be moving with them while I finish off my masters thesis, then I'm moving back to Norwich for September. I've been back in Norwich since September 2009 having been away for five years (3 spent studying History and Politics at Nottingham, 1 year in China teaching at a university, and 1 year studying for a 2 year European masters in history with Central European University in Budapest). As you can probably tell, I don't have much of a science background! Although I'm doing some human biology credits with the OU which I'm very much enjoying, much more so than my thesis.
Anyway, I'm absolutely over the moon about being accepted, and firmed my place Friday afternoon. I found out when I was checking my UCAS on the bus, and went absolutely crazy screaming down my phone to everyone... bit embarrassing in retrospect.
I've lived in Norwich most my life, and I study/use the sports facilities (which are great) at the UEA regularly. If anyone has any questions about the area, accomodation or anything I might know the answer to, fire away! And if not I very much look forward to meeting you all in September.

I phoned the admissions office today to ask about timetables, reading lists etc. The admissions officer I spoke to said that UEA usually starts contacting us in May with information regarding the health checks and CRB. However, she was unsure of when reading lists and timetables would be published, but approximated, mentioning summer time. Whilst I cannot guarantee the accuracy I did find a link to such a list for first year UEA med students on amazon Amazon.co.uk: UEA first year medicine reccommended texts. Like I said though, I don't know how old this is, but if it helps use it.
