Hi there. They use the UKCAT score as a wildcard for someone with a low admission score (ie. application and reference score) to select for interview. This is what admissions told me back in September. Hope that helps.

Hey,
I have applied for medicine for 2010 entry at the UEA. I already have a first class degree in history and politics, and i'm currently on for a distinction in my two-year masters programme, also in history. as well as doing some OU courses in human biology. Slightly unusual background, but I'm hoping my grades and work/life experience, motivation what evs might wangle me an interview! we shall see.
Anyhow, just thought I'd say a few words because I'm actually from Norwich. I've applied to the UEA firstly because the course looks great and i'm quite attached to the university hospital where I volunteer, and secondly because I can live with my parents if I completely run out of money. Norwich is a nice city, I appreciate it a lot more after living abroad for two years. The night life can be a bit hit and miss, and it can be quite quiet in the evenings, but there are some lovely bars and the city's beautiful. The broads and surrounding area are also stunning, and there's some lovely beaches near by, where I enjoy walking a lot.
As for the university, its quite small which feels a bit strange to me having studied at a very large campus uni and a university in a capital city (nottingham, and central european university, budapest). But the lake's lovely, and it has a nice student bar, the Sainsbury's centre is great, and the school of medicine's in a nice new building (not the 1960s concrete monstrosities). My friends who have gone to study there post-grad have all loved it. The area around the university can be a bit more expensive to live in as its very popular, but accommodation in norwich in general is affordable. The university is about 20 minutes by bus from the city centre, and a bus service runs there through the night still I think.
So life in Norwich is quite nice and quite easy all in all! But feel free to drop me any other questions.
With regard to the interview questions, I think the UEA has a fairly adequate description of the system on their website. I haven't been through any interview procedure there yet obviously, but I will be happy to share my experiences if I do because I'm fairly certain they don't have a system like Kings where you sign a document promising not to tell?
Good luck to everyone, I hope this waiting process doesn't drag on too long!

Just got a rejection letter through the post because apparently I didn't submit my ucas form off in time, even though I sent it on the 14th Oct! I even have a confirmation email from UEA from the 15th saying they received my application.
Just rang now but I need to ring back later, I am not ammused!

they said it was a duplicate application that was sent from ucas on the 29th, but my original was received on the 14th, very strange! I'm happy it's sorted though

I stupidly emailled UEA the other day asking for an update - and when we would be likely to hear anything - they said not likley to be until the second week of Decemeber. Still can understand they must be busy.
I am in a difficult situation as have been offered a six month contract in Australia - but am due to fly in late Janaury - so am hoping the interviews are soon! If I do not hear in the next few week I may have to reject the contract and stay in the UK as I really hope to get an interview!
