Previous UEA interviewees...
Hi folks!

I know it's futile if this becomes a long list of cases presented to previous interviewees.. But I'm on a gap year at the moment and it's been a while since the A level exams and my science isn't as good as it was. Now I've got my application in, I'm going to be getting my head down to some proper revision to keep my science up to a good standard.
The question I really I want to ask is will the scenarios/questions involve any direct testing of your scientific knowledge, or rather is it an awareness of knowledge?
If yes, what sort of areas would you advise I go over, based on your personal experience of the interview process?
Thank you guys, any help or advice you could give me would be really appreciated, I'm quite nervous about the idea of these OSCE interviews.. Usually I'm good at presenting myself, but it's delving into the unknown!

Hi - No prior scientific knowledge is needed, the scenarios test your ability to talk coherently and with an opinion, on scenarios like "patient A needs a drug that costs £xxx, but the equivalent amount will help around 5 patients using another drug, so the ratio is 5:1 in terms of cost" - so the question begs "what would you do ?"
Another type of question I had was on the lines of "your friend hasn't been to uni for a few days, you go around to check, and they are in some sort of depressive state, how would you help?" - I recall this tests your understanding on "whats out there in terms of help"
Hope that helps ?

hey basically restating what ar1972 said, to answer ur question no scientific knowledge is needed. the scenarios i believe examine ur rational/method of thinking when faced with a situation involving incomplete information, and another about peer support. i had the interview last year but i heard they are changing it for this year, but they will have the interview format on their website
I'm normally not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me, Superman

On the website it says that interviewees will have 5 minutes to answer the question, does that mean we have to talk constantly for 5 minutes or will we be engaging in conversation with the interviewer for 5 minutes??

oh dont worry there will be follow up questions in response to the answer you give to the initial one. they wont be sitting there just looking at you whilst your on the spot running out of things to say!
and dont worry about repeating yourself as the other interviewers wont be listening in so its ok. dont worry its just like having a chat with 7 poeple in a row and as long as your lively, confident and have a smile, you have already started off pretty well.2nd year medical student at UEA!!!
