Graduate Medicine 2009!
Hey Guys,
I thought I'd start a new thread for anyone who is preparing for graduate medicine in September 09.
I'm currently enrolled for A-level Biology and Chemistry - dubious how useful it will be for passing the GAMSAT but hopefully it will help indirectly..
Wo!

Hey there Im also preparing to sit the GAMSAT in March...as well as study for my finals at Christmas and do a thesis...(">) oh well!
I'm going to do the Gradmed course to get me on track for this yoke and hopefully gather as many materials as I can get my hands on!
Was wondering whether there is a study group or anything going on in Dublin this year to prepare 4 the exam?

Hey yeah I'm preparing for 2009... sat gamsat last week in London as a kind of trial/mock attempt.. was really helpful though to see what it was like.
If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.. and I'm also on for joining study groups!!!

Hey katie1980, I was just wondering how you did in the London Gamsat now that the results are out? And do you know many other people that went over and if so how did they do? I did the same thing as in sat it as a test run and to get a feel for it. Thought very little of it and didn't even check my results until this morning but through some ridiculous i-don't-know-what I managed to wangle a 66... I'm now between two minds as to whether I can take the rest of this year off and enjoy myself or whether I shoulc play it safe and give it another go in March, in light of the retracted funding and anticipated increase in applicants. I mean whatever about before they cancelled the additional places, the points will definitely be going up this year, the question is just by how much... Any advice/ wisdom/ insight from anybody at all??!!! When I'm not floating above the clouds I'm totally between two minds. Thanks!

what do you mean - retracted funding and anticipated increase in applicants? I'm from N. Ireland and had a place last year which for personal reasons I gave up - was interested in applying again - should I not consider it?

The Dept of Education have decided to pause funding the introduction of graduate entry to all medical schools. I've heard a rumour but it is probably just scare mongering that they plan not to introduce GEP at NUIG and that they intend closing UL before it gets really established. I'm now glad that UCC chose me!

Where did you hear that PlasteredParis? UL have the bigest graduate medical school in the country. The school was given the go ahead because of how innovative the programme design was for this country and the future of Irish medical education. Certainly no plans to stop it anytime soon. If so, myself and at least 100 other students would cause uproar.

It kinda looks like they won't open NUIG...but UL??? That was meant to be the pioneering programme of the country!! I think they only filled up 50 places last year though...they'll probably cut about 10 or 20 places off, doubt they'll close it entirely.
