    Advice and Resources For UKCAT

Hi, I am going to sit the UKCAT this year and I just wanted to know what are the best resources to use? I have already got the 600Q book, I was thinking of subcribing to Medify. Are the any better alternatives to Medify?

Also, any tips for AR and VR? Someone told me for VR to just read the questions and then find the answers in the text, instead of reading the text first. What are the topics I have to know for QR and is this all the formulas that I need to know?

    Thanks

I have just taken mine. Apart from the UKCAT website itself, I bought a package from Jobtestprep and downloaded Kaplan's free practice.

I would say that topics you need to know are percentages, decimals and fractions. And I don't think that page is enough since QR includes more than geometry and SDT.

    Good Luck!

    Hey,

I'm researching the UKCAT as part of my studies and came across this website, you might find it helpful:

I'm not sure - there were questions that asked for the mean; I don't remember seeing median or mode

Mean, Median and Mode are very basic maths which shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to learn. You will more than likely get a question or two which involves a couple of them. In addition I think i got one asking for the range? Percent, fractions and the like would come in useful too.
Equation wise, the only ones I can think of is Speed=Distance/Time, Volume=Width*Height*Length, and Density=Mass/Volume. Those are the only ones which come to mind anyway.

In relation to the VR question, my technique was to read the question first, then scan the text. Once you've done the first question in a section you've read about half of the paragraph so should get quicker in answering the rest of the questions. Might not work for everyone but it worked for me and I did well for time in that section.

    Hope it helps! Good Luck!

Hi, do you know any keyboard shortcuts for the quantitative section?

Also, did you have enough space to use your keyboard AND your whiteboard?

VR section: I agree that it's sensible to read the question before looking for the answer - saves time - but equally, a quick preliminary scan of the passage so you know which paragraphs contain which keywords is also useful. Whichever you prefer!

QR section: Similarly, I think it's worth looking at the answer options before committing to a calculation. Sometimes (not all the time!) the answers are very different from one another and a quick estimation is all that's needed - again, much quicker than a longer, more precise and sometimes unnecessary calculation.

[Took the test last year and got good enough marks.]

As long as your numlock is on - you can use the keyboard as usual for the calculator, you can also use the arrows to navigate between screens. Not sure what else you mean by keyboard shortcuts.

Each test station should have space to use both keyboard and whiteboard (it's just a laminated sheet of A4). You can write on both sides. They don't give you anything to wipe it with so I reccommend wearing something with a long sleeve that you don't mind getting mucky so that at a push you can rub it out with that as they will bring you a new one if you put your hand up but it takes time and they may want to take the old one away and you might be halfway through a calculation by then.

    All the best
