UKCAT went badly, don't know what to do about applying

    Got an average of 602.5
    VR 560
    QR 620
    AR 700
    DA 530

and since I don't have an A in GCSE english that takes out quite a few universities that don't use the UKCAT (GCSEs are 5A*2.5A 2B 1C - A*s in sciences and maths)

Currently thinking of applying to Nottingham, Cardiff and Imperial, can't really apply anywhere else I wouldn't mind going due to my bad results (apparently st Georges have a UKCAT cut off of 620!)

Any advice as to whether I have any chance with these 3 unis? And what I should consider doing with my 4th choice, is it even worth applying for medicine? should I just settle for a different course?

I'm guessing this is standard entry ie 5year, have you considered Southampton in addition to your other choices. Also don't to upset I've managed to added to go from 610 in 2008, to 620 in 2010 and 665 in 2011 (over 700 in mist sections) so it defiantly is possible to improve if you have to try again next year.

Personally I'd use your fifth choice for a course you would enjoy then if you don't get the Alevels you have an option, but if you do can always withdraw and go for 2013 entry. In addition remember the cut off changes year on year so if the test has changed at all ie become harder cut offs could decease hence medicine is like a lottery right now!!!

    Dont worry too much

    Hello.

Dont worry too much about it. I know people that got into med school with lower scores than 600 but it all depends. UKCAT is not everything ! its just a small part of the whole thing.. so stay focused and do your best. If not its not the end of the world.

Southampton use the same cut off as St Georges (2500 total score) so would not be a good choice with a total of 2410. You might be better off applying to schools who only use the UKCAT for selection after interview in borderline cases such as Brighton and Keele. East Anglia and Aberdeen are also universities that are quite conservative about their use of the UKCAT - Aberdeen give you a score for your UKCAT that makes up a maximum of 4% of your total selection score.

It's important to research carefully how the UKCAT is used at each university you are considering.

All the best with your application
