The UKCAT is...somewhat biased, I think...I did badly on two sections but well on two others...I failed VR because, as with other people, I read slowly, even though I understand what I'm reading. Tbh it's not like reading slowly is gonna hinder your performance as a doctor, as long as it's not like significantly slow. When will universities come up with a legitimately proven test...

Practice the hell out of Quantitative reasoning, it's the easiest part to score IMO.

I didn't actually go but from what I've heard all of these courses are just scamming you out of your money. They realise how desperate people are to get into med school and exploit this to make a profit. All of the information they give you can be found online or in one of the practice books you can get for about £10. Obviously this is only my opinion but I think they're a waste of time and money.UCAS 2010
Newcastle - interviewed 01/12/09
Edinburgh - rejected
Nottingham - interviewed, Rejected
Manchester - interviewed, OFFER (AAB)
Southampton (biomed) - Offer (BBB)
UKCAT - 730 average
A2 - predicted A*A*AA.
GCSE's - 6A*, 5A, 1B
Hell yeah I'm going to med school

hey

the course i attended was basically a 2 day course and the 'tutor' went through the 4 sections of the ukcat and advised us on the best way to approach the questions and gave us a strategy to tackle each section. You also get 3 online practise ukcat tests, to do in your free time after the course. Also you get to email your 'tutor' anytime between the course and the date of your exam...i found this quite useful coz i came across a few things that i needed professional help on!
I think the course really gave me confidence and i thought the techniques they told us were great...thats only my opinion though. I was speaking to a few other people who went to the same course as me and they all said that they thought it was worth the money too.
I know its expensive, but at the end of the day, if it helped you get into medical school, wouldnt it be worth it? Would you not be really dissapointed if you did 'okay-ish' in your ukcat and then didnt get into the medical school?
I guess you'll never know if its worth the money unless you go!

I really would love to see the scores that these 'tutors' and 'professionals' get in the UKCAT.
Probably no higher than the average candidate... Only difference being that they thought they'd make a few quid from playing on peoples ambitions.
When one of the 'tutors' slaps his scoresheet on the table, with scores over 750... Maybe I'll think differently. But until then, they won't be touching my £200+!2010 entry:

Lol, fair enough - I did fine at it with no practice, but I think it very much depends on how your brain works.

I think it very much depends on the person and how confident you are doing the tests - you will be able to tell how much you need to do depending on how well you do at the practice tests!
