UKCAT average score of 635! Need advice! (;
Hey all!
So I just had my UKCAT, and I'm quite pleased with my average score!
My scores:
Verbal: 490 (really not happy about this one though..)
Quantitative: 730
Abstract: 640 (lol I really sucked at this when I was practicing)
Decision Analysis: 680
That makes an average score of 635!
I did better than I thought I would, so I'm happy. But I am a bit unsure about where to apply to with this average.
I was thinking of applying to:
Southampton
KCL (or Barts)
Cambridge
Imperial
(the last 2 use the BMAT instead of the UKCAT as you may know.)
So I need some advice. Do you think it'd be wise of me to apply to these UKCAT universities?
Thanks!
Oh and by the way, these universities look at the average right? Instead of the scores for each subtest?Last edited by ryopii; 09-10-2009 at 01:51 AM.

I'm a Dutch student, we don't have GCSE's in Holland. My teachers can only give me predicted grades for my final exams.
But anyway, Cambridge does not use the UKCAT as part of their admission process, so I don't think my UKCAT score is significant for my application to Cambridge..

heya ryopii, hope ur alright.
erm, have you spoken to the universities at all? because i'd hate to burst your bubble but there are some things you really ought to know.
1) well done on the UKCAT, you deserve to be happy. have you done your victory dance yet? ;-))
2) southampton may be a good bet if you have a smashing PS and reference cos they told me two days ago that they have no cut off for the UKCAT, it's only used a little, and they don't interview 5 year students (or many graduates).
3) Cambridge don't use the UKCAT, but they do say that they may need the BMAT ifyou don't have the minimum pre-med qualifications (gcse and alevels)
4) imperial will reject any applications that don't get +600 in EACH test. yes, i know its a bummer. i got 580 in my VR (the only one under 600) and they said to me it will most likely be rejected.
5) barts usually have cut off around 630, so that puts you at the bottom end, but don't worry my friend, have faith.
6) for international applicants, they are very choosy and fussy, and will choose the people with THE highest possible grades (im talking A*s across the board, UKCAT above 700 and a smashing PS) the question to ask yourself is: do you fulfill these?
i hope this helps and the best of luck with the future!

Yeah I do know that I will have to sit the BMAT for Cambridge, I have already registered myself for the test!
Emm, where exactly did you find this information? because on the website of ICL it clearly says that they use the BMAT as part of their admission process, and not the UKCAT? Oh wait, they do use the UKCAT but that's for the graduate entry, which does not apply to me as I am still an undergraduate.4) imperial will reject any applications that don't get +600 in EACH test. yes, i know its a bummer. i got 580 in my VR (the only one under 600) and they said to me it will most likely be rejected.
ah, I do feel like doing my victory dance again now ;D
Anyway, I did contact admission tutors, and they told me that I was going to be considered equally, as I am an EU applicant..
Thanks so much for the advice btw!

635 is enough for everywhere bar Sheffield. Brts cut-off was 612.5 last year- not sure about Kings so phone them but I think you'll be fine.

@conorcd: Thank you so much for the link and encouragement!
By the way, Barts had a cut-off score of 612.5? Do you think it will change drastically this year?
Oh and one more thing.. I just wanted some advice in general, I'm thinking of applying to Southampton, KCL and maybe Barts. I really don't know whether I should pick Barts or Southampton, I'm really stuck.. Any advice? Thanks in advance!

not sure if it is accurate but was told cut-offs can go up by 5 or so (it depends on who applies) but N/C have said 600 this year which is same/ just less than last year. Soton have no interviews so your PS must be good.more apps for soton and kings; London living more expensive but are all moderrn couses (soton says progressive & integrated-other 2 pbl but check on websites and see which course you'd prefer. I'm applying Soton as avoiding London and couldn't resist no interview
