Is there definately a cut off point for sheffield and other universities? I dont honestly believe a lot of people on this website. Ive narrowed my unis down to a select 4, 3 of which requires UKCAT.
I know how Leicester uses UKCAT- your lowest score from the 4 sections is taken and you get a score for that only, which is added to the score from your statement and reference. They told us that on the open day.
I went to Sheffield and to the talk there, and I cannot remember them mentioning any cut off scores for UKCAT and i would be really irritated if this was the case.

maybe some people do lie to put others off applying but I was at 2 N/C open days and they interview the 1000 highest UKCAT scores which means a cut-off of 600-610 depending on who applies. Go back a page and use the link to tsr which explains how every uni uses the UKCAT scores. If you don't believe us, contact each uni you are interested in. They might not tell you the cut-off last year but you could still tell them your score and they should advise you on whether you have a chance.
So far I haven't found anyone lying on here but people might pass on info they haven't checked eg I was told Manch and Barts wanted 620 but people got in at Barts with 612 and Manch with 610. I was warned against Sheffield as my score is 672.5 so I would miss their cut-off if it is 675 (it WAS 670 last year-I checked). I didn't want to waste an app

haven't seen an actual cut-off score written anywhere official but it was in some posts. however then read posts that said someone got in last year with 612

Most of the uni's that use a cut off will decide on the actual number once the testing cycle has started as the UKCAT is graded on a normal distribution curve - the cut off score will vary from year to year.
Uni's that admit to a cut off score on their official admission policies are Barts, Durham, Glasgow, Manchester (rank everyone and interview the top (850 last year) candidates) Newcastle and Queens Belfast. None of them will give you number - at least not one that counts - If you call the admissions staff and badger them they may tell you something to get you off the phone but I imagine the decision makers are not answering the phones.
I am putting together a full guide giving the official policy of all the uni's that use it and how exactly they use it (ranking, points allocation, cut offs), once its ready I will put it up on my website to be downloadable but if you let me know you want it I will email it to you - either PM me or sign up from my site (faster option as I can send it to everyone at once)Last edited by Masuda; 26-03-2010 at 04:38 PM. I know it jumped to 648 at newcastle this year (they had said 610+would usually be enough when I was at the open day) and Manchester went up a lot too. Not sure if people have practised more and got better or just that everyone with a high score went for those unis to get an interview. some of my friends with 630 were so disappointed as didn't get the interview. thanks for putting the info together to help next years applicants

I see so many people get so hung up on knowing the cut off score so they can torture themselves with it - as you found the cut offs you hear about when you are getting ready to sit the test will have changed by the time it applies to you - best thing is just to practice like crazy and get the best mark you can - and sit the test as early as you can so that if you need to you can adjust your UCAS application to use your marks to your best advantage.
You may do fantastically well and then its to your advantage to apply to a uni that relies heavily on UKCAT scores or if you are dissapointed - choose someplace tha is using the results very conservatively such as East Anglia, Nottingham, St Andrews, Edinburgh or don't use it at all like Birmingham Liverpool and Bristol who dont use any admission tests at all.The 3 keys to UKCAT Success are Practice, Timing, and Timing your Practice.
