after reading so many posts on this forum I feel like either UKCAT standards have gone down or applicant standards have gone up, cos most of them say they have above 660 or something, and some worry that >650, <700 is not good enough!
prolly cut offs will go up?
Btw anyone knows which unis look at avg score rather than individual sections?
cheers! x

Most universities use the average score, Leicester is the only one I can think that use the individual scores.

New Media Medicine is always depressing in this sense, lots of people with high results are justifiably proud of the fact, and will be more likely to casually talk about it.
I felt the same way last year with 652. But you could possibly be correct, I know two people who did the UKCAT last year and this year. 1 person went from 605 to 652, another from 652 to 678. Two is hardly an adequate sample size though, especially when you consider that by the second year you have more experience with the exam (both of us definitely prepared for it more).Last edited by illusiveduality; 09-09-2010 at 09:18 PM.

Most people who come on New media medicine, will probably average slightly higher scores anyway. Also people who have a lower score are less likely to express it because they feel that their result is rubbish when it isn't. NO result will mean you can't get into uni. It just changes/limits what uni's you can apply to. As long as you look at universities application procedure, and make the right choice base on your own application, then its fine.

hello..
I come from Hong Kong, but I am a British citizen (dual citizenship actually), studying at a boarding school in the United States.
I just took my UKCAT today and was looking at the averages..
My score is 695 on average with
VR:600
QA:810
AR:740
DA:630.
I am thinking about Cambridge, Liverpool, Durham/ Newcastle, Nottingham, and Warwick/ King's College.
I am really ignorant about the schools... Can someone recommend a "safety school" or two please? Though I'm not applying with A-Levels, but USA qualifications, namely the high school diploma, SAT, ACT, and AP exams.
And.. is my score really bad? I know how I shouldn't say it's bad because it's above average, but is my aim for schools too high? Should I apply to some easier schools?
Thanks!

Hi I'm from Hong Kong too! But my dual nationality is not British, am Australian lol.
Hey I think your UKCAT is really good, though Cambridge requires the BMAT rather than UKCAT. With your scores I think Sheffield will make a good choice!
For safer options... well, there isn't a definite 'safe option'. But out of the unis you're thinking about, King's and Durham aren't that safe. Others are all right esp given your UKCAT score I think!
You should look into Peninsula and BSMS, I think they are quite safe. Manchester is a good choice for international students as well.
