UKCAT/A level/GCSE Results
I got really bad GCSE grades (3A*s, 6As and 3 Bs). I have always wanted to do medicine, so I was wondering if by getting an extremely high UKCAT and A level results the universities would be able to overlook these grades? Is more attention focused on A level, BMAT and UKCAT results than GCSE grades? Compared to most other medical school applicants my results seem pretty poor and I am unsure if I would be eligible applying to the more prestigious universities?

Hi, are you having a joke! noobzilla? really bad? you need to get a grip and get some perspective. Most University;s want 6 A's at GCSE and your certainly still in with a good chance at getting into the elite unis. If i was you i would look in to the work experience side of things as you seem to have the academic side sorted. Med schools are looking for work experience and all rounders not just straight A's. Been a doctor is much more than been good at readying textbooks and remembering things!

I don't agree my results are suitable for medicine, especially not the top universities which is where I am aiming. Getting B grades for English is particularly bad as it is one of the core subjects. I hope the universities I apply for won't place too much emphasis on GCSE results, and I achieve good results in A levels, BMAT and UKCAT. Would that help?

Those grades are sufficient for any university, even oxbridge.
At their open day Cambridge stated that most applicants have mainly a*'s/a's but a few b's is fine. Just stop worrying, medicine isn't purely about grades, and to get into any university to study medicine, thats the first thing you need to understand2010 Entry Sent (11/10/2009)

Yeah I realise I also need to participate in a number of extra-curricular activities etc. but I was discouraged by my results because they aren't the typical grades of a candidate applying to Oxbridge. I heard there is a point system, 4= A*, 3= A. If this is true I have only 30 points ( I'm not sure how half GCSEs equate, could be less). Do you know how many 'points' an Oxbridge applicant usually has?

you really should read their websites instead of fishing in the wrong waters.
its all there, it just needs you to weigh it up for your own appraisal.
you need to get used to looking things up yourself now, geezer.
i mean, each post you make is an entire contracdiction, as if it was written by an idiot. heres an example - you say that your grades arent typical of an Oxbridge applicant, and then in the same paragraph you ask what the grades of an oxbridge applicant are.
