Anywhere I should definitely not apply?
Hello all,
I done my ukcat today; I done reasonably well and I am happy with my score (just not so happy with the QR questions I had... One question had 8 pie graphs to look at!)
Anyway, less of my ranting. I will be talking to a family member tomorrow about University choices and he said for me to come up with Universities I should definitely not apply to, just because of admissions etc.
My academic results I think meet most Universities standards (bar Birmingham), so it's just my UKCAT I'm wondering about.
What Universities should I not apply to on the basis of my UKCAT score? Am I okay to apply to Sheffield for example?
Thanks a lot!
Edit: 'Many' apologies for making yet another thread like this; I'm just in a rush for information that is directed to me. Other threads give me an idea (ie. I now know Sheffield have a high ukcat cut-off) but exact information which I need is hard to come by. -Thanks!

Edit2: My Non-Cog. subtest also came out with two statements about me.
Firstly: I am self-efficient and happy to make decisions on my own. However I am emotionally distant from others.
Secondly: I abide by the law. I am likely to base my decisions around the law and community rather than the individual itself.
How bad are these. =OLast edited by magpie7; 26-08-2009 at 09:18 PM.

Thanks Kinkerz.
Are you certain I would be okay for Sheffield and Newcastle though? (Just two I can think of that people have said require high ukcat.)
Newcastle said they keep no records of any previous ukcat information used in past cycles.
Sheffield have been a nightmare to get in contact with; phoned 5-6 times today with no answer (even phoned the switchboard to put me through to Med. Admissons just incase I had the wrong number.)2010 entry:

Yeah Sheffield should be fine... I think their cutoff is 670? A friend of mine is starting Newcs next month with a much lower score than you =)
Try ringing them again in a couple of weeks when the whole results rush thing has died =)

As Drneuro indicates, I don't think Sheffield's cut-off has ever been above 680. So yours of ~700 would be sufficient.
Also, plenty of people got into Newcastle with a score lower than yours. Put it this way, if I was applying this year, I'd at the very least consider applying to Newcastle with 640. Anything above 650 and it would be a definite. Though that's partly because the place and medical school rock!Third Year Medical Student: Keele

Hi rather than make another thread I thought I'd just check if my score was okay here, I got an average of 665 and was wondering whether this would be good enough for King's? And I've heard Cardiff doesn't place too much emphasis on the UKCAT?
Also I did really poorly in VR (550) but got 680, 700 and 710 in the other sections, will this be a problem at either King's Cardiff or do they just consider the average?
Thanks!

Kings measure everyone up against an average... Not sure how Cardiff work

Cardiff use the ukcat to differentiate between similar candidates after interview. (They just like applicants to have very good GCSEs.)
Kings apparantly have a 'sliding scale' where good GCSEs can make up for a poor ukcat score and vice versa (though I can neither confirm nor give any more information about this.)2010 entry:

Sorry to be a bug but do you know whether 'only' 5 A*s - God I hate medics sometimes :P (and 6 As) constitute as good GCSEs for either of those Unis?
