Exclamation PotMed Workshop @ Imperial College!

Hello Students. I've come across a workshop for all potential Medical students held at my University and I thought I should post the details so that if any of you are interested, you apply quickly, before all the slots are taken up!

    PotMed 2009
    A comprehensive medical application workshop

    Dear Student,

I would like to draw your attention to ‘PotMed 2009’, an annual workshop hosted by medical students at Imperial College London for prospective medical school applicants. This year PotMed will be taking place on Sunday 27th September at Imperial College’s South Kensington
    campus.

PotMed is an excellent opportunity for aspiring medical students to acquire fundamental skills to help them through the rigorous process of medical school application. This is the fourth time we are holding the event and capacity has been increased to 200 due to popular demand.

    Our event includes:
    • Inspiring lectures
    • Views of students from various medical schools
    • Tips on UKCAT and BMAT examinations
    • Personal statement advice and 'clinic'
    • Debates on current medical and ethical issues
    • Tours of Imperial with an opportunity to ask questions of current students
    • Invaluable mock interviews by a professional interview panel (inc. doctors) with feedback

I trust that this event will be of interest to you and hopefully hold you in good stead for your medical school applications.

The event is open to Yr 12 and 13 students and the attendance fee is £20, including lunch. You will need to send your application form and cheque directly to us by the correct deadline to secure a place on the workshop (see details below). After applying, we will contact you directly with further details of the event.

The day should prove to be informative as well as enjoyable, and I sincerely hope you can make it. From our feedback last year a very large proportion of students were satisfied with PotMed with a majority stating an overall satisfaction of 10/10. The event is not just for prospective Imperial applicants; we hope the assistance we provide will help you wherever you wish to apply.

If you have any queries, please feel free to contact us by email: uac07@ic.ac.uk.

We hope to hear from you shortly.

    Reviews from last year:

‘Everything we learnt was really useful and has made me more confident in how I should go about getting into med school. I think it’s made me want to be a doctor even more than I had wanted to and I
didn’t think it was possible for me to be more keen than I already was.’ – Year 12 AS level student

‘I found PotMed very beneficial and informative for medical university applications and the mock interviews were most useful.’ – Year 13 A2 applicant

‘It was very good, especially the mock interviews because of the good feedback. The talks were all great, especially the one on personal statements. I thought it was a great idea that (****) gave us his
email address, I found his help with my personal statement very useful. Also, the lectures on interview technique and role plays were great.’ – Year 13 A2 applicant

‘I thought you'd all like to know that I got an offer from Imperial! I couldn't have done it without all the help I received from you, so thank you.’ – Year 13 A2 applicant

September 27th is a bit late don't you think...?

Most people have sent off their application by then. Something to talk about in the interview I guess; should the opportunity to mention it ever arise.

Saying on your personal statement, "I will be attending a one day course in the future... I will be doing this and that" doesn't really sound effective either; plus it will be wasting space on your personal statement that you need every bit of!

    Just an opinion. >.>
