UKCAT score graduate entry medicine for 2010

I found looking at these quite useful, however no one has really started one for this years application cycle.

I did my UKCAT for the first time last week and got an average score of 642.5 (VR 530, QR 660, AR 680, DA 700). Was uber disappointed, I thought I had things sorted out when I found out I got a 1st in Medical Science but it seems like my options have just closed up again.

Basically I just want to see where my score stands in relation to other graduates and whether its worth to rethink my choices...

    cheers

    James

You still have an average score of over 600: your options have not closed up!

where are you thinking of applying?

    Well, originally I was thinking:

    Oxford GEM
    Imperial GEP
    Warwick
    Newcastle GEP

But after my UKCAT performance, I'm thinking:

    Bham GEC
    Cambridge GEP
    Bristol GEP
    Warwick

It really depends on the performance of this years cohort, If everyone found it difficult then maybe I could pick my original choices...

Where have you (pino_r) applied for? how did you do in your undergrad?

no way u did excellent! ukcat is only a small part i think and even then uv def got a pass! Plus ur first school choices were excellent as they are the same as mine except i'm gonna go glasgow instead of Newcastle i think. And maybe just one of Imperial or Oxford seeing as theyre super competitive...ooh decisions decisions!

I'm looking at applying to Imperial GEP, Kings GEP, maybe Barts GEP, and then the last option is still undecided. I'm waiting on getting onto an observational placement before I write my personal statement.

    I scraped a 2:1 in M.Biochem (Bath, 2002) and a PhD in Biochem/Immunol (Imperial, 2006)

    Hello All

I am thinking of applying to Warwick, Leicester, Barts and Southampton i think
What are these schools like in terms of getting interviews/offers etc
Also, if you take a gap year abroad, I take it you are still a home student in terms of fees?

    many thanks

    Cool

Im thinking Nottingham, St. Georges, King's and Keele (not sure about keele yet, they only have a dozen places for GEM which they claim are effectively decided on pure academic ability).

I got 680 in every section of the UKCAT i hope puts me in good stead considering the cut offs for each section some universities have. (the requirement to get a minimum score in verbal reasoning for example, so you can't make up for it with a huge score in a single section).

I would't be put off from applying with that score, Oxford say they don't give many offers to people below 650 but its not immutable, besides you're pretty close to 650 anyway.

Applying last year with a 1st in Biology, Newcastle and Barts both said my score was below the cut off score which was 2730

Leicester told me that they take an average of the worst two scores.

I'm wondering if anyone has any other cut off scores for other unis. This is my third year applying with no luck...don't want to give up but if the UKCAT is my only barrier then what next?!?!

    (I had VR 620, AR 700, DA 760, QR 550)

Well its clearly your QR ... its not a bad score but all your others are very good so its dragging you down! 2730 is pretty high as a combined score, thats an average of 682.5 - which makes it higher than kings supposed 'cut-off' as well. i dont believe it myself.
