Desperate Help Needed!!!!!!!
Hi
I am looking to do the UKCAT before the end of July and i am not too confident with the process. So i am looking to attent a Kaplen course. I was wondering if anyone has attended such a course and whether it is worthwhile
Also any recommendations for books as i desperately need to start revising
Finally is there a limit to how many times you can take the UKCAT in a year?
this is my first time
Thanks in advance

Hi!
I've never taken a UKCAT course, but I can tell you that you can only take the UKCAT once in a year. Secondly, theres a realllly good book out this year that a lot of people are using and I personally find it really helpful, it's called 600 UKCAT practice questions: Get into Medical School - 600 UKCAT Practice Questions. Includes Full Mock Exam, comprehensive tips, techniques and explanations.: Amazon.co.uk: Olivier Picard, Laetitia Tighlit, Sami Tighlit, David Phillips: Books
And finally, relax! You have a lot of time, the worst thing you can do is be overly stressed. With some practice you'll do amazingly. Best of luckDegree: BSc Psychology - 1st Class Hons
2010 Entry
Oxford GEP - Rejected without interview (Low UKCAT)
Kings 5 yr - Rejected without interview - maybe UKCAT?
Southampton GEP - Rejected
Barts 5 Yr - Rejected - Missed UKCAT Cut-off
UKCAT - 627.5

Heartbroken...but
2011 Entry - Bring it on because I'm still standing

Firstly, thank you very much for your quick, speedy response. i have just ordered that book.
Sorry to be cheeky, i have one more question. I am going on holiday on the 20th of July. Do you think i have enough time to start my preperation from today, or do you recommend me waiting until i come back from holiday which is the 21st of August, seeing as you can only take the test once a year, it is for 2010 entry
Also what score did you get, and how much preparation time did you have?
Thanks ever so much, MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

Hey!
If you started your revision now, you'd have approximately 1 month-ish to prepare. If you start after you're back, you'll still have about the same amount of time as you should get your application sorted and sent by the end of september ideally. So it's your call really, if you'd rather get it done and out of the way now - go for it, less to think about when you're on hol! On the other hand if you'd rather relax first and then come back and have a go, that's cool too. Either way, same amount of time
As for me, last year I didn't apply but sat the UKCAT just to get a feel for the exam with 0 preparation, I flicked through some sample questions for a day - and I came out with 590 - crap lol. So what I learnt; preparation is a must - I know they say u can't really prepare for it, but u really can. Psychometric tests are something you can definately practice for to improve ur performance. Secondly, the time limit can be stressful, so the best thing to do is be relaxed and confident. Oh and be prepared to read very large chucks of info in short amounts of timeDegree: BSc Psychology - 1st Class Hons

Cheers, thanks again. I think i will probably leave it and do it when i come back from my holiday, refreshed and prepared.
What is the Psychometric test, i thought the UKCAT composed of just VR, QR, AR, DA and NA.
Thanks again, i initially had a panic attack, lol.
Out of curiosity when hae you booked yours, if you have
Thanks again

Don't worry the UKCAT is just those sections, nothing more! I'm booking mine for about August time. Refreshed is a good idea, good luck with it, let me know if u have any other questions etc x

Pretty sure you can take the UKCAT more than once a year - I had a friend who booked two tests one after the other and took his 2nd score with him to UCAS!

I think he applied twice, so that would make more sense - i registered that he implied you could just take the exam again up until the deadline - my bad!
thanks for clearing that up. I booked it early in anticipation of a second attempt (got it on the 17th July 09) so fingers crossed i can prepare enough before then on the quantative reasoning!
