    Abstract Reasoning help!!!

    Hi everyone

Dont think I'm alone in struggling on Abstract reasoning in particular, followed by Quantative.

Though it would be useful to ask veterans' experience of best resources/ guides to help train for Abstract reasoning?

Any recommendations and tips on improving in this section gratefully received!

    Thanks

    well, I guess I'm a veteran

after the first test, I looked at a friends manual from one of those expensive courses and managed to get my head round it... O also bought the UKCAT/BMAT book.

now, my son can instantly see a pattern without thinking and knows the answer... but for me I have a logical brain and so have to go through it bit by bit:
Shapes - e.g. all square or or round
Number - e.g. odd or even
Direction - e.g. diagonal, horizontal or vertical
Colour - e.g. black in white or white in black etc.
Pattern - repeating sequences or rotation

I'm sure there's more, can't remember now. I also just stared at the sets and sometimes that gave the best guess when time is a pressure.

For QR, well I don't think I ever got the hang of the time - always ran out!
    omg...I'm a Newcastle medical student!

It was my weakest section when i did test before.. I think I ended up with simple guesswork!!
What really gets me is that this test is so unfair to dyslexic students!! This is used in the tests to diagnose and assess dyslexia, obviously showing that this area is difficult! It just feels unfair!

    Anyway, Id appreciate help too!!

    Omg, I agree.

I downloaded the practice questions yesterday and today I got practically perfect scores on the verbal and the decision making, meh ok scores on the quantitative (but that's easily fixed with practice and revision of higher maths from 10 years ago, lol).

The abstract reasoning section, however, I find impossible. I can't get my score more than 50% and to be honest I did guess a lot of them anyway.

I'm worried because the books suggest that you should have a reasonably consistent group of scores. Idk if this is something you can "train" yourself for or if it's something that you're either good at or you're not.

    *cries*
