    UKCAT- resit candidates

Hey I am a resit candidate and have retaken 2 of my chemistry modules to bring them up to an A.
I'm just wondering what sort of ukcat scores do universities look for from resit candidates?
Is it the same for first time applicants 600-700? I have read around and some places are now placing a cut off point for 700?! is that universal now or just at one or two universities?

    Thankyou

Hey there, they should still be looking at the same ukcat scores for resit students. Just out of interest where did you read about cut-offs at 700? I can't see them sustaining cut-offs at 700 - seems ridiculous, it's too high?!

    Thanks
Well there isnt a specific univerisity that I know which has that cut off point, however when I started browsing the ukcat pages, and getting a general idea I saw that most of the successful applicants had atleast 670+ and thos with 700+ had all got offers.

Obviously the UKCAT is just one factor and other things also play a very important part but nowadays due to the number of applicants who have the correct requirements and good p.s the decision for giving offers could very well be affected by the ukcat score.

Hiya, you're welcome. You're absolutely right though with regards to the score having such an influence these days. Unfortunately, it has come down to this stupid ridiculous IQ test...but just give it your best shot! I'd say getting through as many questions as you can is your best way of preparation.

I think 600+ is probably the cut off point. Most people I know with offers have above 600. 700 plus seems a bit high! Although I know someone in my class who has an offer and his UKCAT is below 500! So who knows. Some unis place different emphasis on it. With Liverpool, as far as I know, not even requiring it.

Yeh, 600 is the national average. Some unis like Newcastle, oxbridge and the london unis put a lot of weighting on the ukcat (eg. Newc rank your score and only use that to select u for interview) whereas Bristol, Birmingham and Liverpool don't use it.

Over time the UKCAT has had different weight at different unis with published cut offs at between 2200 to 2400 and then those who rank all candidates by UKCAT (after academics) and interview the top % (like Newcastle).
So don't fret, it's not the only thing to focus on and when you get the result consider your options... you might be surprised!

PS as in my sig this was my 3rd time sitting this wonderful test...
