Hi guys, so I sat the UKCAT yesterday an got an abysmally low score of 552.

tbh, my major underperformance was AR -430...ouch! that hurt

I hav gastroentritis an so sat thru it wiv stomach pains...I really dont knnow if this is a valid excuse... and actually don't think any admissions tutor will believe it.

Am applyin 4 the medicine wiv foundation yr courses...has ANYONE gotten in with such a score? What on earth are my channces?

Ok so you might not have done well on the ukcat but that should motivate you to strenghten other parts of your application, such as your personal statement, which is obviously much more important.

Just dont apply to the unis which carry the ukcat in a significant weighting, such as kings or barts.

I suppose if you have proof from a doctor about your problem then the admissions tutor may be lenient with this aspect.

As for the foundation year course, i cant remember the ukcat scores of anyone who got into them. Sorry!

Thanks for the encouragement Moho...really needed it... UKCAT made me feel like i hadnt a hope in hell of gettin in...

i dunno if i can get proof from the doctor, cos i keep havin similar health issues, which come and go...so if i asked him 4 a note about this one, he could think it was just me making excuses for this occassion (i hope this makes sense!)

Idon't know...will take your advice tho...and hope and pray!

...Wow... We both had gastroentritis through our UKCATs?...

I can really, really relate with you on that... I hadn't eaten anything for a whole day, I couldn't drink anything, my vision was awful, I had a headache, I slept for less than 2 hours... It was hell.
You know, I was just sitting there, staring at the screen, and I couldn't even see the darn thing properly? My UKCAT this year was a bloody struggle, and, when I came out, I just wished I could've done it in the same condition of comfort I had last year...

I'm sorry, but, I don't think the universities would really notice an excuse like that... They could easily turn around and say that you/we should've rescheduled beforehand. The thing is, yesterday was the very last open slot, so I couldn't... I had to do it. :S

When I walked in, I was shivering. The guys said, "Can I see your bloody passport?".

I kinda didn't answer then I got it out, and the guy said " put your clothes in the locker." And I was like, huh???

So I did and walked into the room, and I kinda sat embarrassed with nothing on >.>

VR- Pretty hard, (already sat last year) - hard to distinguish between false or CANT TELL, seriously.

    QR - OH MY GOD

AR - 1st couple of patterns HAD NOTHING IN COMMON seriously, like this triangle, a square, a circle and a star in different orders in circles. I was like . The only easy question was with these circles. lol.

DA - Arrrggghh. i thought it was gonna be easy, but seriously - the time was annoying and PLUS the codes made no BLOODY SENSE.

Sorry by the way. But that was my xperience and btw. Anything above 550 is OK.

Besides the score, don't most universities reserve foundation year courses for gratuates without a relevant science degree and people who have good A-Levels but lack chemistry and/or biology?

Pre-Medical/Foundation, same thing. As I understand it coming from the A-Level/Highers end of things you're expected to have better results than if you wanted to do the normal five year course.

Can't say I've got highers nor have I bothered with UKCAT as I won't be applying until next year for '10 entry. Having been out of the loop for six years I've gone down the access route to get in.

Where did you get into btw? I see you've got pretty stellar academic results there.
