UKCAT weighting

Hello!

This is my first post . I was wondering if anyone knew which unis weight the UKCAT the highest? I'll be applying to Scotland and England. I got a really good score in it (see my signature) but a B in one of my highers so I need a uni which will sort of cancel that out with my UKCAT score. Any help would be great! Thanks

Alice

Wow! Congratulations! I've never seen a score over 800 before.

I'm not too sure about the unis - I think Edinburgh, Kings and IC are all very keen on the UKCAT.

Can I ask, did you do a lot of preparation or did it just come naturally?

*Stares in disbelief at your score*... (5 mins later). That is an amazingly impresive and unique score. I mean seriously. You will be guranteed an interview at Newcastle, Nottingham and Barts. I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones from the top of my head.

I'm not 100% sure what Higher requirements are, but I would place good money that the B would not hold you back in any way.

It's applications like yours that remind me how slim my chances are. No hard feelings though, it's all part of the application game

*Stares in disbelief again at your score*.

Oh thanks you guys! I really didn't expect a reply this fast!!!

Um....I did a bit of preparation by finding aptitude tests on Business & Occupational Psychologists, Management & Leadership Assessment, Psychometric Testing | Dr Mark Parkinson - 2008 and SHLDirect (could be .co.uk). The abstract reasoning only has a few different rules which I think I found somewhere on this site... I hope that helps people.

The higher requirements are usually AAAAB, but most people apply with AAAAA. I'll go and look at those unis now...

Wow...Just wow.

I heard Queen Mary and Kings weigh the UKCAT highly. I hope you're the only person with a score like that, it's almost intimidating.

I did pretty badly on all of my practises for verbal and quantative reasoning!! i can't remember exactly what i got but it was below 30% at least for both of them. I did improve over time with a lot of practise, even though they say that practise doesnt help!

The problems with a lot of these unis are that they ask for AAAAA and for you to be 18. I got AAAAB and I'll still be 17 when I start. Thanks for everyone's help!

LIES! I REFUSE TO BELIEVE!

Good luck, with a UKCAT score like that I'd expect you'd get an interview (unless your PS is utter shit, which I hope isn't the case.)

But if I were you, email/call them.

UKCat

Higher English B is a hurdle to be honest, I mean they don't stress too much on UKCAT, (if you get 800+ doesn't mean you'll get in).

Just don't be too sure. (about 80% of people that apply have 5A'S, 4 A's and a B is a minimum and about 90% of these don't get in).

However good luck.

Yeah I agree with you, however if for example you did get 750+ then u cannot deny that the chances of getting in are much higher.
This is why I think the ukcat was introduced in the first place, people who apply to do medicine all have excellent gcses and a levels so the used this to decipher between the candidates therefore the higher ure ukcat the more the chance that you will be given an offer and hence an offer.

This is what my experience is anyway last year I got 590 (not too good tbh) and my AS werent very good either, I somehow got an interview at st andrews probably because of my PS but ultimately i got four rejections and I really do believe that was because of my UKCAT.
