Arrow Am I all alone on this?!

I've been reading through and practicing using the official UKCAT guide, but I've just been to the UKCAT ONLINE WEBSITE and tried the short practice test and found it fine, (still couldn't finish the quantitive)...........but when I tried the 'real time' practice test, I ran out of time so quickly. I COULDN'T EVEN FINISH THE VERBAL REASONING in time. Your meant to have 30seconds to answer each question but it takes me about 80 seconds to read through the passage.

I've only got 2 weeks till my exam and now I'm really scared as I would hate to let this ruin my chances. Did anyone else find this at all?

Should I still even bother with UKCAT/medicine!?

Any advice/help would be really appreciated.

Hey,

No, you aren't alone; I had timing problems with the VR section last year as well, and I still had that problem when I did some practice questions earlier on.

It's a problem in your/our technique, really. The best thing to do is, read the question, and then immediately scan the paragraphs as quickly as you can, finding the relevant sections. Believe me, I've tried that, and my VR section's looking much better now.

I really hope that helps you, good luck.

I got a pretty good score on the UKCAT but i ran out of time about 3/4 of the way through both the VR and QR sections. Its designed in such a way that you couldn't possibly answer all of the questions in the time limit. 30 seconds a question is impossible. I think the idea is to see how well you deal with the pressure of seeing that small time limit. Some people crumble and some people just work with it.
Just try and work on getting what you can done and then quickly guess leftovers. If anyone on here claims that they answered all of the questions in every section without any guessing then they are either superhuman, or more likely, lying.

The VR on the normal test online I got to the last question but only had about 5 seconds left so just gave up. Mind you that was with errors due to not double checking answers. The QR is so hard, in the book I got about half way through and had to guess the rest...

You're definitely not alone. When I did the practise test I literally got 7 out of 40. Totally panicked. In the real thing I got 750 for QR. You need to practise, that's for sure, but the best advice I can give you is don't be afraid to leave a question. If it doesn't come more or less immediately then guess and move on! And just guess the ones with loads of info! Good luck.
