    Question UKCAT score advice

I know there quite a few such threads here already, but I was wondering if you could give me some advice on my UKCAT scores (i sat the test yesterday) and what universities i should apply to with such a score.
    My overall score is 690
    - VR - 530
    - NR - 660
    - AR - 690
    - DA - 880
I'm pretty much happy with the score. Well, it could have been better, but it could have been a lot worse too i suppose. I'm a bit worried about my VR score.. Do uni's generaly look only at the overall score or do they also put an emphasis on the separate sections?

So, would I have a better chance applying to universities which are big on the UKCAT, or those that don't look at it? I was thinking of applying to Nottingham.. would this score be enough? What about UEA?

Sorry about the many questions. I should probably also note that I'm an EU candidate.

Don't worry about the VR, I asked the same question in another thread and was told that the average was way more important. Btw, congrats on the DA.

But actually I was wondering about the same thing. I'm from Canada, so I don't really know the situation in UK.
    My score was
    VR-700
    QR-610
    AR-670
    DA-880

I was thinking Birmingham, Barts, Kings, and Manchester...don't know if it's realistic or not...also not sure if my UKCAT score is one I should rely on and stress in my application

For one, both your scores have good averages.

For nottingham the score seems sufficient, don't worry about your indivdual unit scores, the average counts.

    tehnoid...your ukcat score is great.
Birmingham - your candian gcse evivalent, should be quite high seeing as birmingham require 5A* for gcse.
Barts - their average score is over 2400, so that seems fine
Kings, im not too sure about and manchester, i got an interview last year with a 607 average, so no need to worry

at the end of the day, the ukcat score is a small part of the appkicatio, there are many other things (u will no), that are given more emphasis upon

Thanks a lot, yeah, my average in canada is 90 (except for my grade 12 English), so I'm not real worried about the academic part. But I still need work on my ps and I don't really know if my extracurricular stuff and medical experience (or lack thereof) can hold up. But thanks for the advice, I just needed some general guidelines for my UkCat score.

Thanks it makes me feel a lot better to know that they look at the overall score more.

And you say that it would be enough for Nottingham? Well, i hope so. Does anybody know if there are cut off marks for Nottingham and UEA and what they are approximately?

That score is not too good as it is near the low average point 500-700, but do not worry.
If your PS is out of this world and grades are good, the UKCAT will probably be overlooked.
I don't know what else to say
your first degree seems good though

Ok. Since many people post similar things.

    DON'T apply to:

Edinburgh, Newcastle/Durham, Barts, Glasgow, Oxford GEP, Imperial GEP because you WILL get rejected.

I would stay away from Sheffield, Leicester and St. George's too if I were you.

Dundee, Aberdeen, HYMS, Keele, UEA don't give it much consideration at all as for Dundee and Aberdeen it counts 4% and HYMS has a point score system that would give you 4 points (for the 510 score you got) out of 10 out of 110 points (50 points for ps, 50 points for interview) so no big deal there too. Keele uses it only in borderline cases and UEA uses it to save you from a rejection any stage of the selection procedure in case your predicted grades etc. are not too good.

BSMS, King's and Southampton use it as an active part of their selection procedure but if you have high predicted grades and an excellent ps and reference it counts little. Peninsula uses it to interview candidates if they all have very high predicted grades and there is need to differentiate (choose applicants from the highly qualified number of applicants).

Bristol, Liverpool, Birmingham don't use it at all, although I'd be careful if I were you because these courses are oversubscribed even more than some other medical school,s except King's which is the most oversubscribed getting 1/4 of all the UK medical school applications every year. You really need top grades for these 3.

I don't know much about Queen's but they would want somewhere between 600-650, I think. I read the forum on Queen's. Therefore if you are interested post something on the Queen's forum or email Queen's directly.

That's all. Best thing would be, if I were you to apply to at least 3 out of: Dundee, Aberdeen, HYMS, Keele, UEA and then maybe 1 from the one's that don't use
    it: Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool.

If you need to know more don't hesitate to ask and I'll see if I can help.

    Best wishes!
