I know, I'm an idiot. I just got really cocky cuz I usually do reasonably okay for aptitude tests, I qualify for Mensa etc. Having said that, a lot of other applicants probably do too. I'm currently studying for the GAMSAT and it has really become clear how my aptitude for maths has just slipped away without the maintenance!

Bristol uni doesn't ask for UKCAT so you could apply there? Think it gets a lot of apps for that reason but worth a try, best of luck with wherever you decide to apply.
My UKCAT was less than brilliant (and I'm a graduate), anyone think that Warwick, Leeds or Southampton are no go areas? (Was going to apply to these before getting my result...) Any help greatly appreciated!

that seems to largely depend on what you call 'less than brilliant' some people think that 690 isnt great as they feel they need 700+.
Bearing in mind though that the warwick website quotes 640 as the bottom for previous selections. Not sure for Soton/ leeds

Oh and Im a graduate, got a lower UKCAT score than you and still got two interviews and a place at BSMS. I would have been very happy with a score like yours as you can apply to nearly all that accept UKCAT, as not all put cutoffs into place, and even at that, it is usually 600.

Hey there,
I'm applying to BSMS as a graduate (with a lowish UKCAT score and 2.1 in Microbiology) and was just wondering if you could give me any advice on what work experience u mentioned in your personal statement. I really like the sound of the course and would really appreciate any pointers!

Hi Sleddy,
The work experience I mentioned was part-time work with disabled kids in a local school, and regular work in a elderly care home (both of which did not get asked about during interview); during the interview they were much more interested in what areas of medicine I found interesting, and how this was relative to my module choices during my degree and dissertation title. Make sure to put your work experience into perspective by explicitly stating how you think it gave you an insight into medicine as a career and the benefits/difficulties imposed. If you interested to know how much I included regarding my experiences, I dedicated one (rather short) paragraph.
All the best,
James M

To put it simply, I'm retarded. Absolutely crushing result. I don't know what to do now! Obviously I'm going to submit in the UCAS application regardless...but what schools do I have even so much as half a chance of getting into?
I was originally going to put down Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle and Queen's (all undergrad courses, although I'm a graduate). I was also considering King's and Glasgow.
Should I waste my application on these schools though, with such a dismal overall score? I feel like such an idiot!
I am only familiar with the reputations of some of the more well-renowned medical schools in the UK...are Liverpool and Birmingham good medical schools? Should I be focusing more on places like these? Are there any other non-UKCAT schools you can recommend?
Stupid UKCAT...I am so annoyed.

Hey, I wouldn't worry too much about the stupid UKCAT. My score was only a little higher than yours and I'm not worried. Just to help you out, all the med schools I'm applying to aren't that big on the UKCAT. Definitely don't apply to Newcastle because last year they were just using UKCAT to interview. (trust me, I graduated from there and two prople I knew in my year had really high UKCAT scores and both got interviews). Probably wouldn't apply to Edinburgh either if I were you. Anyway, Aberdeen med school is better than Edinburgh.
