Unsure about how the ukcat scoring works
Hi, i was looking around the forum and saw some people had posted their average score and then their score for each section. I haven't sat the test yet and was wondering how the ukcat is marked eg
- How many marks is each section out of ?
and how many marks are you given for each correct answer?
Thanks

each section is out of 900, except for the last section which is like a personality test.
Im not sure how many marks you are given for each answer as last year, one of the sections 'Abstract reasoning' , some people scored 900/900 without even answering all the questions. And the rest of their scores were around 600ish...so they took that our scores last year.
But the average student gets 600-700 out of the UKCAT. But its a very quick test as you get like less than a minute for each question...
i think i worked it out to be something like 35 seconds for the quantitative reasoning section...
good luck

thanks - but so far not doing so well on the practice questions in the Felicity Taylor "Passing the UKCAT and BMAT" book. Overall, i got 67% and that wasn't under timed condtions!

well at least you are trying.
Try to better your technique, do a question see what you did wrong and learn from it.
Theres plenty of sites with very similar tests to the UKCAT, they are like a simulation and you do them under timed conditions.
But it is important you do the questions under timed conditions as the timing in the paper is what is the worst thing about it.

67% is pretty good i think, like the BMAT you're not really meant to get high raw marks... they just deliberately use funny scoring systems so you don't know, all you know is how you did relative to others.
Fresher medic*, doesn't know any medicine. Slight issue.¬

every test is very much different too, so just be quick and hope for the best really
your score is only an indicator of how you did relative to others

Hi just to say don't worry that your only getting 60 odd percent in the Felecity Taylor book, this book is much harder than the actual UKCAT, if you do these questions and can get aroud 70% try the practice questions on the UKCAT website and you will realise how good this book is for you. I have my UKCAT on Tuesday, I was very nervous as I was running out of time, only getting 21/30 in the verbal reasoning and 20/50 in abstract reasoning. After reading the book my abstract has improved dramatically soo I recommend reading that section, also after I attempted the UKCAT practice questions my confidence improved ten-fold. Soo stick to the book, it works wonders and don't worry too much!

i think my biggest weakness is the verbal reasoning as i tend to spend so much time thinking about it and my logic seems to be different from what is required! Although abstract reasoning is my second toughest area.

what i did for that was i read the statement first THEN i went through the paragraph looking for any phrases that linked with the statement. I personally thought that it was pointless to read the paragraph first as by the time you read the statement you forget what was in the paragraph as you are so nervous.
