Quantitative reasoning
hi, im doin my ukcat 2morrow <-- horrible procrastinating. anywhos, i checked out some of the practice problems on the ukcat site and they were SOOOO hard for me, i was stumped on most of them (tho i dun wana admit). i bought that "passing the uk clinical aptitude test and bmat" book and the quantitative reasoning section was a breeze. my question is ... well.. is the actual test really as hard as the practice problems on the ukcat site or r they more similar to the ones in the "ukcat book" or maybe just somewhere in the middle. i am asking strictly on the difficulty of the test and not the "enviroment" or so to speak because i know ppl r sayn the "adrenaline" and "pressure" is gona help score me miracle marks but... i dont believe it. heh, im stresssing to the max right now, i am so restless but dont tell me what i want to hear just tell me the truth doc

Hello :-)
The quantitative reasoning- well, you won't finish the questions in time I can tell you now
They are a bit harder than the practice ones- both in the book and on the ukcat website. But dw, everyone last year found that they ran out of time.
The rest I would say is similar to the ones on the site- there are some shapes in the abstract where you will be like "huh?" but overall the test questions are basically the same.
I found that the verbal reasoning questions in the book were close to useless- it contradicted itself a lot, there were mistakes and the test is a little easier.
You'll be ok, promise.

I was wondering exactly the same thing. The long practise test quantitative section is really hard. Much, much harder than the short quantitative practise test and that in the book. To me they are not comparable. What do other people think who have done the long practise test quantitative section and the real thing?

heh, i wish i could tell u but i couldnt take my test 2day >>;; it ends up that i HAD to have either a passport or a drivers license which i had neither.. now i have to get another 1 and ther goes $200 T____T;; maybe theyll gimi a break
its not that the questions in the ukcat "full verion" practice tests r hard.. wellll... ya they are kinda hard for me <-- always was bad at math. but! with enough time i could do it but there is SOOOoo much information to absorb i just cant do it all in 20minutes. hopefully its not too hard, im prolly gona end up rescheduling til late august so i can wait for a good answer to this question and more time to practice is always nice too i guess.
@ person above my post, ur right. the practice questions (short version) r sooo much easier than the practice questions (full version). the short version is more like the ukcat book while the full version is just like @___@;;

DaffyDuck,
Even though you didn't do your test, you will at some point and I can tell you (after doing the test 2days ago) that the maths section is so so so much easier than the mock test pearson put online.
on the day of the test i checked out the mock test, after using unofficial books the whole time, and i bricked it when i seen the maths section! i was so nervous going into it that i fluffed the test (averaged 633
) but it turned out the maths was very inline with the unofficial test books!
so dont worry!Last edited by superted; 10-07-2008 at 09:05 PM.

I was pooing myself about VR after the practice test but adrenaline is a wonderful thing - scored 810 on the day.
ps the real thing is waaaaaaaay easier.

Did the quantiative reasoning section on the full length practice test today and it was absolutely horrible. I made it worse by spending 10 minutes on the first couple of questions. I carried on for a few minutes after running out of time before givign up after question 12. I got a grand total of 9.
Last year I got 660 in this subtest (my weakest score) but have to redo it as i'm applying for a course transfer next year into Medicine. i didn't do the pracice test last year so I can't really compare the two. I'm hoping people are right when they say the QR section of the real test is much easier, otherwise I have got much worse at QR over the coruse of the year.
For what it's worth I did the QR section of the 'Passing the UKCAT & BMAT' book a few weeks ago and got all the marks, though i did run over a couple of minutes.Warwick 1st Year

I have mine at 3pm today, have exhausted all the practise questions on the site and the book, and still suck at QR. Wicked.

Hey there!
I, too, found the QR section on the full-length practice test near impossible, especially considering the time limit. I don't have the book, and since my test is on Friday I think I'll do the short practice version, then just leave the whole math thing alone and wait to see what they give me on the day.
One thing that I'm determined to keep in mind though is that I should skip questions if I don't get them - especially with QR, I find I get too sucked up into problems that I am unable to solve anyhow. It's just that guessing feels so unnatural when it comes to numbers, as I'm usually unable to eliminate any of the possibilities! :S

I just did mine and got an average of 690, which I was fairly happy with considering I guessed about half of the abstract reasoning and QR questions!
