UKCAT scoring system
I'm planning on sitting the UKCAT this year and just downloaded the practice questions from their site. I wanted to see how I would do in the practice as an indicator of my performance in the real thing. The problem is, while I have a percentage, I have no idea how that translates into UKCAT scores - I've read on this forum that the score is between 300 and 900, with the average being 600. Does anyone know how the score is calculated?

Hello,
I wasn't even aware they gave a percentage, perhaps that's changed. Each section is out of 900 and there are 4 sections.
An average mark for the whole thing is subjective, as each section assesses different skills.
Get the UKCAT and BMAT book by Felicity Taylor and the husband and wife team of whatever.
Better still, get your local library to get it, the new 2008 edition. You can guarantee to them that people will hire it after you.
I sat it last year without a clue, and loads of people get coached and get amazing marks and take our places.
Not happening again this year!

yeh no one really knows how the scores are worked out
as you may know last year one of the sections was cancelled (hence my score, as well as many others', went down)
just get those books, and use the site to practise the Qs and as i did, hope the scores are good(!)

I HATE THE UKCAT. I HOPE IT DIES [SOON].
Good luck though [thats really all u need] but if ur one of those people who are willing to pay 200 quid for a day of practise... then go for it. It might make u a faster clickerer.Imperial College 2008

Thanks for the response guys - just to clear up, I calculated the percentage myself from the practice questions they have on the site by checking with the answers they have. I got 80% of them right but have no idea if that's good or not! Also I bought the book a few of you mention, but that's as far as I go with prep - not willing to part with any of my hard earned cash for prep "courses". I'm not stressing too much over UKCAT because I've got bigger fish to fry (as a graduate I'll be sitting GAMSAT too, which is a mighty scary exam!) Wish me luck - and good luck to everyone else who's in the same boat.

good luck!
and 80% sounds great, i was getting like below 50% so you're well on track
certainly wouldn't recommend going on one of those expensive courses, the book is helpful enough

Good luck Alison!
Are you applying for Peninsula 5 year? As I think I might be. I'm not a graduate, just a young (relatively) mature.

Hi doormat - sorry I'm not checking this very often! No.. I'm not planning on applying for peninsula. I'm considering Glasgow (5yr), St Georges (4yr) and a few others. Glasgow is my first choice though.
