UKCAT Book
Hi all
I realise most of you have taken the test by now, I'm doing mine on the 9th. Also, sorry if there has been a thread about this before.
My question involves the Quantitative Reasoning section of the Passing the UKCAT and BMAT book - the practice questions in here are stupidly easy. I'm absolutely terrible at maths, having cried my way to a B at GCSE (I still have nightmares about it and shudder at the thought of even being asked to add 2 numbers together!).
I refuse to believe the questions in the actual exam are this simple...so, can anyone confirm if they really are that easy or if they are (as I suspect), harder???
Thanks

Surely you cant say that ....are you timing yourself. When the clock is running youll find you get short for time and cause you to rush things...thats my downfall for that section...if you still find it easy then ur bound to get 900 ...which is a good thing

the questions you get in the book are pretty similar to the actual ones on the test
i got all of the ones in the book right but just an average score in the real exam which was annoying
the only real difference is you are under a lot of pressure in the actual exam so try doing timed practices
apart from that you should be fine
you are given a calculator and a board to write on so it's not that bad
i found there was a lot of working out percentages and interpreting graphs
GOOD LUCK!1st year Manchester Medical Student

They are that easy. It's time not complexity in that one.
Also while we are on the subject of that book, its VR answers are crap. They dont appear to follow their own definitions of true/false/cant tell and at the start they say "assume the passage is true" - then in one answer question the truth of the passage because it's about Labour and was written by the Lib Dems!
It's quite vague in the real ukcat answering (and in critical thinking exams) but not that bad. I think.Fresher medic*, doesn't know any medicine. Slight issue.¬

Thanks guys.
I know that there is a lot of time pressure in that section, which is what will make it difficult! I just couldn't believe the content could be that simple - I was dreading the maths bit! I'm sure I won't do very well cos I'm still slow at maths regardless, but its reasurring that I can at least do the sums...hopefully the pressure and adrenalin on the day will make my brain work a bit quicker than normal!
I read somewhere else about the Verbal Reasoning, but thanks for the heads up. I really struggled with those questions in the book so its nice to know they're a load of rubbish, haha! I just couldn't get it between "false" and "cant tell". Gonna try the Medicas ones next week.
On the subject of Medicas, I'm seeing that a lot of their answers are wrong, which is awful! Especially considering they used to charge people for the so-called "course"!!Barts GEP 2008...what was I thinking?!?!?!

Yup. I guess theres no revision aid or book or course which is perfect and they all need to be taken with a pinch of salt...just to get the idea of what you're supposed to do. That's how they helped me anyway, e.g. with pattern-spotting in AR, which is a skill you can kinda acquire and might be really hard at first...

When I first saw the AR on the practice application on the Pearson Vue website I totally freaked out!! I got everything wrong. Then I realised there's really only a certain number of ways they can do things...so once you get used to doing it, its ok. There's still a couple of very tricky ones around though!
