IS it just me? I find it hard!

I'm not sure if it is just because I'm a bit less clever than you guys

but I find it well hard to finish all the questions of the practice subtest for quantitative reasoning and verbal reasoning in the time given (17min and 15min respectably) from the book "Passing the UKCAT and BMAT"!

Am I hopeless or what?

Ha! No way, I failed to finish anything in that book in the given times and my scores were just rubbish. I had the real test today and scored fairly well so it just goes to show...

You're my new hero

I've just done the verbal reasoning subtest and scored something that if my score was twice what it was I don't think i'd apply. It seems nothing like the UKCAT online test.

That was like: An ADC is needed to convert microphone to CD

This was like: The council expenditure increased 45.6% over the course of the third term in office taking into account the defecit left from the last term and inflation and subtracting VAT at 17.5% and blah blah blah........

What's a more accurate representation of the actual test?

No way can you accurately read those passages in the time given and answer questions on them.

May I ask what sort of scores you were getting in the book and what score you got? It's cool if you don't wanna say..... I don't think I will once i've taken it

Ah you guys are exactly as I was on Monday evening (test was Tuesday afternoon). I kept saying to my Mum that if I messed up - and I was sure I would - then I would give up my Medicine application entirely.

In the book I got 8/30 for the Verbal and similar results for just about all the other sections except the shapes one which was far easier than the real test was.

My UKCAT scores were 640, 690, 680 and 650 - avg 665 - score 2660.

I'd say the real test was 'smoother' than the book (just watch for those exhibit buttons!!!) but obviously longer with no breaks so very tiring. The actual questions on the verbal section were either very long or very short, nothing like the book and actually a bit easier a mon avis! The online praccy wasn't very good in my opinion except for teaching you the layout.

The numbers section was v. different - more shapes, area and loads of averages - not so many tables like the book. Few graphs too. Was a nice section but very hard to keep to time. If something looked like it would take too long I just ticked the review box and skipped ahead - hey it worked!

Shapes one was harder. Not alot you can do other than calm down and think logically. The code one was a trial as always, helps to write down the code in words but takes time. I completed it in good time though.

Best of luck guys - don't worry so much!

Spiffy

I got 11 / 30 when I did the test a few hours ago. I have been up all night, but feel no worst for wear so I don't think I can blame that.

Nice to know that you got a decent score

You've made me feel a lot better about it

Nice one

Nik

Just tried the quantitative reasoning in the book, pretty much got all the ones I had time to do right, but I only got to 18 out of 30.

Anyone any tips for speeding up?
