Help-verbal reasoning

I've done both the quantitative and verbal reasoning subtest in the "passing the ukcat and bmat book"
in the quantitative part i did ok, although i need to manage time for effectively, but in the verbal part i did very badly. I always find the verbal reasoning part of any kind of these tests hard. I've read the "rationale" behind each of the answer they give, but im not happy with some of them. If anyone has done these tests and can help me, please tell me.
maybe we can discuss it on msn. I'm really confused

thanks

hey.

I've recently just been going through the "passing ukcat and bmat " book. I totally agree!

The quantitative section i did quite well at... but the verbal reasoning went really wrong for me lol. i think i only got about 13/30 correct. It seems you have to analyse the text soo closely!.. the question that are either false or can't tell always trick me out too!

Lets hope the actual test is easier lol. Mine's on the 6th of August!

I find the verbal reasoning section so hard. The other three sections are quite straight forward and simple but i just don't understand the verbal reasoning at all.

Can anyone recommend any websites with practice verbal reasoning tests?

I'm hoping that the book is crap, and the test is a bit more logical. I gave up in frustration with the book, and I agree with the others on here that the rationales to the questions don't always make sense. They claim to be able to infer certain things on some questions, but then what I see as logical inferences should be "can't tell" on other questions.

And how should one interpret words like "may" "should" and "must"? I found that kind of frustrating, too. There's a passage about financial guidelines, but are these laws or what? The following questions don't say whether to assume one must follow the guidelines or may.

I'm finding this frustrating, as I when I took the MCAT last year, I was in the 97th percentile on the Verbal Reasoning section. Wonder how it'll shake out on the UKCAT this Friday.

Just to bump up an old thread. There are some particular questions in the Verbal Reasoning and Quantatative Reasoning Subtests in the book where I could not agree with the author's answers nor her reasoning. I asked some family and friends the questions and they came to the same conclusion as me.

Have you done the practise questions on the UKCAT website? They are more straightforward, although I didn't get all of them correct at least I understood what was going on.

Maybe you have sat your test already - how did it go?

totaly agree verbal reasoning jus takes the mick, they should give more time so atleast people read it properly and than answers the questions, rather than jus guessing, i believe ukcat to some extent is a guessing test because u get soo little time tht u jus have to guess the later questions

I did the UKCAT last year- the section in the book is a bit on the useless side. Some in the actual test were a lot easier but some were 100 times harder. I had one that I had to look through a huge page of tiny font- I think it was terms and conditions of a bank account/mortgage agreement. If in doubt just guess. The amount of time you get is so small it is virtually impossible to do if you analyse everything in detail.
