2008 UKCAT Cut-off Scores.
Hi all,
Thought it would be a good idea to start a thread regarding UKCAT cut-off scores. I'm not sure how common it is for universities to disregard applicants with UKCAT scores below a certain threshold but according to a number of people using this forum it is done by some universities. See quote below.
'but if I take Barts as an example, their cut off was 2400/600 then I'm ok'.
If anyone knows what universities will be adopting this approach, can i suggest you post it on this thread for everyones information.
Assuming we all get our UKCAT scores before sending off our UCAS forms, knowing this info could avoid wasting 1 or more of the 4 valuble UCAS slots.

yes, agreed - Barts published theirs after the application cut off, which caused a few posts on the forum... with some wasted slots
not many unis fully used the UKCAT last year, so it will be interesting to see what happens this year...
I guess we wait and see? I hope they don't take the GAMSAT approach and wait until they know the spread of results from the applicants before setting the cut off

Hmm. I think most are using it as a combination approach. I think last year Edinburgh banded the scores and gave a number of points to each band for example. Lowest band got 1 point, second 2 points and so forth. You didn't need any threshold, it merely formed part of the overall score that would determine if your application was sucessful or unsucessful and I think that is generally the approach adopted by most unis at this stage though obviously there are exceptions.

I was just going through the BSMS website and i tried looking for the page that said that the cut-off score for them was 600. but i dont think that there is one. so I'm guessing that they don't actually have a cut-off score.
If you look at the UKCAT website it says that there is no real pass mark.
So is there actually different cut-off scores for different universities?

Leicester said they'd band people according to their lowest score... so if you got, for example, 700/700/690/450 then you would probably be in the lowest band because of the 450.

I know that Imperial are giving each section different. Knowing Imperial they'll be keeping an eye on the quantitative part especially.

well I know someone who had a UKCAT average of around 550 and she got into kings on it. Anyway it is the most stooopid test I have ever sat in my life and I am dreading having to do it again in a couple of years. Maybe I will find it easier the second time around, when nerves aren't getting the better of me.

Only Barts
According to the teachers, only BARTS are really strict on UKCAT scores. They use it as a filter to filter out the candidates who scored below a certain figure.
The other unis are either using the scores for research for future applicants (ie not us), or as a small part of the selection procedure!!
