Due to still feeling like Ive been battered with a brick, Ive put my UKCAT off untill 20th July, to give my head a chance to clear itself!

I dont know if anyone has mentioned it before, but the University of Kent have a series of practice tests somewhat similar to the UKCAT format, I tried their Verbal Reasoning one and got 19, (and thats with me feeling like im locked in the worst hangover ever!) which they say is in their average, so fair play.

Might be worth having a look at for anyone who still has the UKCAT to do, and hasnt got a practice book.

I found the book useless also for the quantitative section (but I do have the 2006 edition, so perhaps they've changed it): they just work through every answer like robots. E.g., one question asks you to work out an average of around 12 numbers. Now if you did what they say and add up all the numbers then divide by 12, it'll probably take you a good deal longer than the 30 sec you have on the test...The "model" answer doesn't point out that the numbers roughly fall into two groups either side of a mean, which you can spot if you only look at them for a few seconds. Since the 4 multiple-choice answers are spaced quite far apart, it is well possible to guesstimate the right one within the time limits.
It's like that for a lot of other questions too. Essentially the book fails to make it clear that this is a test of quantitative REASONING and not a test on how similar to a calculator you are...

I havent bothered with the book! I've just been doing the practice q's off the net a few times! I sem ok on the verbal and quantitative and good on the decision but only manage 8/15 on the abstract! I'm just hoping there's gonna be enough time to think things thru to try n od betterfor the shapes! O well, not much brain rest for me as I go for mine tomorrow straight after college , i should have rescheduled it realyy , as my uncle died whilst i was in glastonbury, so i was told when got back and had funerla yesterday, but by the time i thoguht about it it was too late 2 rescehdule, an it was hard enough to fit it in already! Gawd i've rambled a bit here! I'm hoping to get average above 605 as thats what my m8 got n i consider it a bit pants, but anyway here goes i suppose! Well postwith the results!

Good luck to everyone else,
Emma x

I'm just back from the test centre, averaged 633
From what I can tell from reading various posts, 633 isn't particularly good, especially considering the average score will prob increase each year the test is held.
My first choice for 2009 is warwick, does any know if they put emphasis on the UKCAT results? Or for that matter, any other unis that dont care too much about it (graduate entry preferably)
I've got a sweet p.s. and an extrapolated first class degree in Biomedical Sci.

Hiya,

Well at the open day in June what they did say was that Warwick has no cut-off score for UKCAT. They do expect 50% or over. By this I was not too sure if they did mean something like over 450 in each subtest or if they will like rate the applicants according to their UKCAT and they will consider the average of the applicants and have a cut-off score. I'm not too sure but they do not have a specific cut-off score.

Congrats on u're UKCAT score!!! I've got mine on the 30th of Aug and right now i feel like i'm going to get the worst possible marks ever

Hey

Thanks for the advice! I hope its enough for them!

I only looked at the official mock test this morn before the test, I had used various other online sources first, and poo'd myself at the maths section - i was so nervous thinking I was going to get zero in that section but it turned out to be very easy compared, I couldn't believe it.

I got 540 in DA which was a total dissappointment as it had been my strongest section in practice - i guess that's my luck!

good luck to every1 else, especially red.appl64 for friday, the pressure and adrenaline in the real thing gets u going, the praticse ones just make u feel like shi*
