im in my 1st year on a course im not happy with. i studied chem, bio an soc at alevel and i got ACC. is it worth me dropping out to resit them in my 2nd year to boost them ..or should i just stay on 2nd year and resit them or just leave them?

why aren't you happy? is it because you'd rather do medicine or do you actually dislike your course? why didn't you get the grades during sixth form?

you'd be better off posting this somewhere else on a more relevant board to get more responses = )

i was pretty much in the same situation you're in...i didn't get the grades at a-level, did a degree in biomedical sciences/physiology and now i've applied for medicine...i got an offer from peninsula and i'm waiting for my interview results for notts GEP...so its finally happening for me...

i have to admit i was unhappy with my course (and still a twit when it came to studying) but loved the uni life...i just crashed through it, and its a miracle i actually stayed and managed to scrape by...

looking back, i would have never gone to uni, but resat my a-levels again...but then again you do have a whole year under your belt...do you really think that if you resat your a levels you'll get the AAA needed? although depending on the course its usually harder to get a 2:1 than AAA...is it exam time for you yet? is this what spurred this post? (i'm only asking because i understand going crazy during end of year uni exams)

i'm pretty sure that you're not supposed to but email ucas and ask them...jic you haven't though about it you need to take into account other factors...

    1) you need a good academic reference (can you get that?)
    2) you'll have to explain in your ps your situation, why didn't you get your a-
level grades, any special circumstances (esp regarding dropping out - and you'll definietly have to if your referee writes this on your application)
    3) by resitting you'll be restricting the no. of schools you can apply to - do you think you will be able to pass their entrance exams? do they want extenuating circumstances concerning your a-levels?
    4) would you be able to stick it out on your course, do well, get a 2:1 (or at least a 2:2) so you can apply to med schools as a graduate for 4 or 5 yr schools?
