you should have read this before going to take the test so you cant blame ne1 for not seeing the calculator button! An online calculator is available for use in this section. You can access the online calculator by clicking on the button called “Calculator” on the bottom of the screen. You can try the onscreen calculator on the practice questions or see how it works on the Pearson Professional Testing online demonstration.

Too many people do apply, but what else can the colleges/Uni's do? UKCAT may be lousy (I didn't really enjoy the experience I must confess), but what else can the colleges do? It would take so much time and resources to interview every decent applicant, which may explain why Southampton gave up on interviews completely!

I hated the UKCAT ...ran out of time completely in one section where you had to use the calculator and stuff

Had my UKCAT today...not the most pleasant test!
Timewise made it to 33/40 for maths and had to guess the last ones. Otherwise it wasnt too bad but you can never gauge how you did for that type of test - best not to think about it really!

Ukcat
Hey everyone,
I haven't left any posts on this site before but saying as though I had my UKCAT test this morning I thought I would share my experience with you all!
Although the test is designed for school leavers I am currently doing a degree in the Biomedical Sciences and even I found the test rather challenging
The first section was ok and I finished it within the time limits. Sections 3 (shapes) and section 4 (codes) went brilliant for me.............BUT.................the maths was a complete and utter JOKE
I ran out of time by the time I reached question 29 and had to randomly guess the rest!!!!!!1
Does anyone know when we will receive results/ pass marks/ anyone got their results yet?
Cheers,
Ali

I found all the sections fine really, I think I have a bit of a skill for that coding stuff (brag brag brag), except the notorious maths section - I managed a pitiful 24/44 questions answered. I used the calculator but wished I'd had the bright idea of using the keyboard that was propped up against the back of the monitor: every time I had to press any number twice in succession it would take at least 2 seconds to register.
I honestly don't see why they can't let me take my normal calculator in! It's acceptable for A-level maths so why not some poxy simple calculations on UKCAT?!
I think the definite big tip is leave a minute to guess the rest of your answers! It just didn't cross my mind before the time was out...
However, I had 20 questions left and with 5 options on each maths question I would have probably only gained (and it's not really honestly gained, just fluke and we shouldn't get into med school based on fluke should we?) 4 or so marks at most.
Anyway, I'm not gonna complain 'cause I might have missed a few seconds because of my own lack of observation or resourcefulness. If I get in it'll be on my own attributes and the same if I don't, either way I trust the admission's peoples’ judgement to pick the right person for the place.Gabba Gabba Hey!

Heya, did mine today.
Went OK i think. Had lots of time left over on the first and last 2 sections. Its just the mathsy bit that sucked the most. the calculator is pretty crap and i had to guess the last few Qs and i know i ran out of time of guessing the last couple. Oh well. Shapes were good for me and verbal reasoning Ok, but i got so bored with the codes! At times the whole thing was a bit of a guessing game!
So basically: Watch the clock and dont forget about the calculator (i did for the firts few) and GUESS!
I have no idea how i did though...
Good luck if you still have to do it + others good luck with the results!

Uh, unfortunately (I guess) they're all like the practice questions - you have two sets of shapes and have to decide which set or neither the question shape fits in.

^ The same question i asked (which no-one replied to)! I've since taken the test and thus can answer 'yes, they ARE all like the ones in the practice".
Good luck.
