Help!! please leave unis/grades and interview dates!
hey i'm sort of new to this but i'd just like some advice/comforting (
) about the admissions procedure.
Basically i got 9A*s and an A in my gcses. and in my AS levels i got 2As and 2Bs (though the b's were 5 ums off an A) and i'm predicted three As
Are these grades good enough for medicine? I thought they were but as of yet i've had no interview dates at all.
This was all brought on by an annoying guy at my school who's panicking everyone about interviews etc. so please be brutally honest if need be. (hence panicking me more, but i need to knoww!!)
I've applied to:
Manchester - no reply
Imperial - acknowledgement
Newcastle - no reply
Leeds - acknowledgement.
xxx
Ps: Do reply, it'd be much appreciated

Hey, dont listen to other people trying to scare u, ur grades are all really good and u are predicted to do better than the entry requirements for most universities so dont worry bout that!- ur gcse results are much better than mine!(3A* and 7A) university dont just look at grades anyway, they also look at how much experience u have tried to gain, ur general interest in medicine, ur hobbies.etc. its really early in application procedure aswell, most places probably havnt looked at most of the applications and are just going through them in batches, so just because u havnt heard anything yet doesnt mean u will suddenly receive 4 rejections all at once! u might even have to wait until march to get an interview, but in the end it doesnt matter when u are interviewed- just how well u perform when u do go! so just make the most of the time u have now to properly prepare so that u can do really well. hope that helps! good luck. x

I'm just going to keep copy-and-pasting this into threads like this, even though I doubt it will make any difference:
I don't think I had any until the New Year when I applied. Try to stop stressing.
Addendum: I'm now in second year, so again, please stop stressing

Oh, no, 9A*s and 1A... Absolutely terrible... You won't be going anywhere with those grades... (I am being sarcastic, by the way).
Your GCSEs are amazing, your AS grades are really good. Take a look around at your peers who are applying to medicine, and on these forums, and you will notice that you have grades that are far higher than most people. Stop stressing...
Or were you just trying to boast about your exam success?

mm i wonder that :S ive been watching these forums for about a year and a few of these posts turn up every year...if you aren't really sure whether your grades are good enough...
email the unis? talk to your careers advisor? talk to a teacher who you know well?
bit late now to be doing that, post application don't you think?:S

All you have to do to see if your grades are good enough is to read the damn prospectuses from the unis you want to go to!

oh no i'm not trying to boast at all, please don't make it out like i am - i was/am genuinley worried because you're always reading about these horror stories in the papers where even those students with the top grades get turned down. and i just don't want that to be me. you understand my concerns, no?
ah well i'll just have to wait and see. thanks guys for the advice etc

As others have said, grades are by no means the sole criteria used by medical school admissions officers - after all, there's a lot more to being a doctor than being academically capable.
Anyone who thinks they are entitled to a place because they get straight 'A's are in for a nasty surprise.

As long as you get the grades at A2, sure. I'm a mere NatSci student atm, but from my understanding of the system your personal qualities hold great weight. You've passed one hurdle and now you're onto the other!
