Difference between Thoracic and Cardio...
What's the difference between Thoracic and Cardiothoracic specialties???

Well,
I think the thoracic specialists study in everything to do with the thorax in itself however, the cardiothoracic specialists are mainly interested in the heart area.

In fact cardiothoracics deal with everything in the thorax whereas thoracic surgeons manage conditions of lung and mediastinum but not the heart. Most thoracic surgeons have been trained in cardiac surgery but focus on thoracic component.

Nextman is correct. However, in the US thoracic surgery often has the same meaning as cardiothoracic surgery in the UK, ie thoracic surgery covers everything in the thorax, including the heart.
