    Getting into utas (from canada)

    Hey everyone,
I'm a canadian high school student (gr 12) and im interested in applying to utas for the mbbs program . I've been through some of the other threads, so i know that some of you got into utas medicine from canada (congrats, btw!) I was just wondering if any of you could share some of your stats and experiences

[When did you get apply& get accepted? What was your gr 12 average (in percentages)? and did you write the isat? did you apply through an agency? if so, which one?]

    thanks in advance ,

    applying to UTAS from Canada

    Hey lillybeans ,

Most of the students who apply to medical schools abroad find it useful to apply through an agent as the process can be quite confusing and they are very familiar with the process. I would recommend AustraLearn as they have a specialist for Canadians applying for MBBS programs.

Getting into med school in Australia at the undergraduate level is highly competative so the majority of students who gain entry have around a 95% average (required to have a 90% for UTAS) and have completed upper level (grade 12/13) chem and it would be desirable to have physics and math. You will also need to sit the ISAT test to be eligible for the program.

The applications close on the 31st of August 2009 for the 2010 intake and no offers will be made until September at the earliest. However, you should contact AustraLearn and they will be able to walk you through the process.

    good luck!

I'm a Canadian, went to high school in Vancouver BC. Now a 2nd year MBBS student at UTAS, and so far it's been good. Except with the fact that I lost focus this semester and my effort in studying has gone down. I hoping I'll still pass, exams coming up!

Stats... i got about an average of 91 for 12th grade.. so yeah, i had to work my face off to get that, pretty much. My year I didn't have to take the ISAT, which was good. I didn't even need to be interviewed. Just my marks, BC high school diploma and an essay. In 12th grade I did math, calculus, physics, chemistry, bio (well it was a course called 'medical genetics', actually), english and some other thing, haha.

Really enjoying it here at UTAS right now. There's always something to complain about, and not everyone likes it here. But I do I didn't apply through an agency, but if I did it might've been easier. But it wasn't really that hard for me. Just a lot of phone-calling and email-messaging.

    Good luck!

If you need any more help or advice just shout away

    - Ray
