if you don't mind me asking, how did you make a balls up of the interview the first time? did you feel that you waffled too much in your answers, did you tell them that you were somewhat cannibalistic? i'm just intrigued as to how one 'fails' in an interview, as obviously it is possible.

Your clearly very confident if someone messing up an interview surprises you. Two main things caused my mess up:
1) This is probably the most nerve racking interview you are likely to sit, if you think about it, how you perform in this interview will shape your entire future. I was incredibly nervous which really did not help reason number 2...
2) I was ill prepared, I went to the interview with the attitude that they are after honest from the heart answers. When in truth what they want is a combination of researched answers with a personal touch.
Prepare ! look at some questions, do your research, get friends to ask you questions.
Good luck!
P.S apart from trying to chew my own arm off after my interview no im not cannibalistic

Thanks for the reply. Sorry if that came across facetious, I did not mean it. Of course nerves etc can throw one in an interview, but you made it sound like you really put your foot in your mouth and I wondered how this was possible and if it is, how I might avoid it
I will indeed give the interview some thought, although I'm not entirely sure what I should/could research. Were you asked about the condition of the NHS in Wales, new government legislation on healthcare, your own vision for healthcare etc? Do they want to know that you know how many people in the UK have HIV or prostate cancer? Or, are they more interested in stripping you back so that they know that you've done the hard research on what exactly it is like to be a doctor in today's world? I'm just curious as few people seem to post any thoughts post-interview, as they're too busy getting on with their own aspirations no doubt!!
Many thanks again Sider, and I do wish you all the best...

hehe its fine dont worry
The type of question i was asked (trying hard to remember as it was over a year ago now) were along the lines of team work and responsibilities of doctors, they didnt ask me anything as hardcore as that. altho it does no harm to look into any local policies that are being put into place or changes to the welsh NHS.
Alot of the questions were simple to answer and if you were asked them at any other time you could answer them no problem. As soon as your in that room and and (in my case) a consultant Cardiologist and Haematologist are staring straight at you, you just freeze lol.
Nothing is set in stone thou, if you think something might be covered its worth checking it out anyways
Yeah ive noticed that soon as your in you tend to ignore this website, altho a few people do seem to come back

Congrats to all once again! I have my interview on Tues 26th Jan & I was wondering if anyone has emailed the college seeking a date change for interview? I'm stuck in New York (he says with negative sigh!!) until the 25th and somehow have to get to Swansea on the following day...from Dublin!! I emailed the school on Fri and just checked emails now - no reply...time difference doesn't help either.
Starting to brick it now!
Does anyone know if they accommodate a date change lightly?
.....a very worried Steve

probably best to call them if you can't make it. I'm sure they can rearrange the interview, you definately won't be the only one who wants to change the date out of over 200 people.
Well done on the interview by the way.
