As most of you are probably aware the medical course at Swansea starts 3 weeks earlier than most of the other courses. This creates an acommodation issue as most university accommodation only becomes vacant on the 24th (GEP start on the 7th)
For most single students this is not an issue as they have allocated some single rooms for earlier occupation, although it's important to realise these are the more expensive single accommodation (en-suite etc)
If you want a more budget conscious room, or if like me you need family accommodation there is a real problem.
For me the problem is quite large. I have three kids, two of which attend school. I have to find somewhere to live for nearly three weeks for myself and two kids (My wife and young daughter will follow on later). I posed this problem to the accommodation office who gave me a list of short term let accommodation. The only one that could accommodate wanted £70 per person per week ... That's £630 for 3 weeks and is well over my poor student budget.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
May I also suggest that this issue needs to be addressed by the accommodation office? The nature of the course suggests that many students are older than usual and are more likely to have families. Accommodation at the onset of the course is quite important, I feel the course is demanding enough without the issue of stop gap accommodation and a mid term relocation!
Antagonistically ... Fizz
