Does Anatomy intercalation help you get a place in a surgical position?
Does an Anatomy intercalation help you get a place in a surgical position after F2?
I want to do either ENT, General or Neurosurgery. Would a Neuroscience intercalation be more valuable for the latter?Last edited by Medilord; 14-10-2009 at 03:18 AM.

I would say not unfortunately, although you would think it would make a difference. The forms used for higher speciality training are so points driven that, as with MTAS, you would get say 5 points for a BSc regardless of it's title. They are much more heavily weighted to postgraduate experiences such as audit, teaching, publications, courses and surgical log books etc.

Wanabanana is partly correct. The shortlisting criteria are usually generic but there are also points available for activities relevant to a career in your chosen specialty.
Beyond this, a relevant BSc is important for demonstrating commitment to surgery.
You might get points towards Neurosurgery shortlisting for a BA in Medical Journalism but this will create a less convincing impression that a 1st class BSc (plus prize and ?published dissertation) in Neuroanatomy...
