What type of surgeon would do a Heart transplant?
I find the whole system of what surgeon does confuseing. Would someone who would do a heart transplant be a cardiothoratic surgeon? Or would they be a transplant surgeon?
If it is a transplant surgeon would the same transplant surgeon who would do a heart transplant also do something like a liver transplant aswel?
If a cardiothoratic surgeon sub specalise in heart transplants?
Im confused

There are very few heart transplants performed. They are done by cardiothoracic surgeons, who will spend most of their time with more routine cardiothoracic surgery (e.g. CABGs and valve replacements/repair).
Transplant surgeons tend to focus on the kidney. Liver transplants are usually performed by hepatobiliary surgeons.Spencer Wells BSc(Hons) MBBS(UCL)
