Official St. George’s gep 2010 Application thread

So today's the ucas deadline and all the applications are in (hopefully). This therefore is for all of us who have applied to the gep course for 2010 entry. (does what it says on the tin really). How does everyone feel about the mmi's starting this year? and has anybody else had to stop themselves from checking track already because it's simply a ridiculous thing to do this early in the game?

I've not looked at track yet, but I ought to get it book marked soon.

I also see the mmi's as a good thing. One mistake won't destroy your whole interview.

i agree, plus if you get a panel you don't gel with that well it's not good night st georges, just move on to the next guy. A friend of mine got in this year and was part of the pilot study they ran, she said it gives you more of a chance to show yourself off, which i guess must be a good thing.

Yeah I'm kinda heartened by the switch to MMI too. Same kind of format as in the selection for my current job (government fast stream).

    MMIs

    Hey guys,

MMIs don't sound too bad in my opinion and, from what I have read, they will maybe allow you to express yourself more than is possible in a standard formal interview. In my experience of interviewing, mostly as an interviewee but latterly as an interviewer, some people can interview amazingly but they bomb when it comes to the job. I reckon it’s a good thing for us all as we are all competing – if we get the knock back, we wouldn’t want our place at Med School to be filled with a competent interviewer who subsequently dropped out would we?

Bit far sighted for me just now though, my life plans don’t exist further than the GAMSAT results day…!

P.S. Excuse my obvious ignorance, but what is track...?

hi coco, track is the ucas service for tracking your application. I agree with not wanting somebody taking a place who would later drop out, i suppose the med school owes it to your future patients to ensure your not a complete psycho as well.

i haven't had a confirmation either. I was late too, 14th. i was determined that it wouldn't be the 15th though. Gamsat day seems an eternity away, talk about living in a void. Any educated guesses out there for a cut off this year???

    MMis

I’ve received a log-in for Nottingham but nothing from George’s yet. I applied on the 15th after 7pm when the Customer Services helpdesk had closed. I was having major IT problems with my email address not verifying and details just disappearing. I thought the dream was over until I had to log in and out repeatedly for my details to finally save. Was that a test…? Anyway, the charge has come off my Credit Card and my correct options are all saved on my details. I don't see there being any problems but if there are, all of their calls are recorded and I will be getting my litigious hat on!

To access Track don’t you need a welcome letter? I haven’t got anything yet and there’s a slim chance of getting anything in the post this week!

GAMSAT seems like a blur now!

Hi , if like me, you are too inpatient to wait for the letter with the track log in details , simply click 'forgot login details' on the track website and they will e-mail you your log in details.

I was one of those slightly irrational people who logged on everyday last week expecting to see something... I live on in hope : Good luck with your application
