That is bollocks. The screens on laptops are fine.

I was wondering the same. My boyfriend is a computer geek and said to get a computer screen with a better-than-laptop resolution it'd cost in the region of £1500 for the screen alone. Strangely enough I can't afford that, and would rather have a laptop than a PC.

I'm going to get myself a laptop (current one is knackered after first degree) and if there's anything that really needs hi-res I would hope there are some nice big screens in the computer rooms at uni!

You'd be hard pressed to find a laptop with a crappier screen than the ones in the SGUL computer rooms. You definitely do not need a huge, professional quality monitor for the course material. Sometimes you have to look at a washed out x-ray image or a set of infected genitals, and a laptop is fine for this.

Laptops fine, loads have them at georges. and the wireless network is quite wide ranging now in uni so you can probably even sit in the library loos and look at non infected genitals if you so wish... ;-)

a USB stick is quite useful too for presentations etc if theyre in the course

Good that there's a decent wireless network. I was wondering if anyone has a mac and could tell me if they had any compatability problems? I'm thinking of getting one...maybe.. I'm hearing arguments from both sides...!

Macs are easier to get to work with the Eduroam wireless network than windows - they just work. A lot of people have had trouble getting the correct windows drivers installed to connect to Eduroam. If in doubt, get a mac.
